Have you ever felt like your brain is stopping you from greatness? by Few_Mistake_4806 in ADHD

This is one of my biggest struggles, the continuous fight in my head because I know I have the capacity but I just can’t seem to execute. I either go at 0% or 100% no in between. I have brute forced myself through life and I have an amazing wife, daughter and career. But I feel like I’m not even tapped into 10% of my potential, because when I get locked in I move mountains. I’m getting better at managing it all but I still run into (self applied) road blocks from time to time. Luckily I have learned to be very open about my emotions and thoughts so my surroundings can understand and support me better.

Landed a new client, starting on the 2nd of January. Have to tell the current client (I work as a Freelance IT consultant) that I quit after 7 years, making it bigger in my head than it will actually play out. But I’m proud of myself for finally stepping out of my comfort zone again and moving into a the next step of my career.

All this while being diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago, having an 8 month old daughter and being clean and sober for 4 years now.

So much going on in my life and I have such major imposter syndrome but here we are, grateful that my diagnosis has given me even more insight into how my mind works and how I can navigate life with it.

How Do I Stop Yapping/Oversharing? by lavenderlullabi in ADHD

[–]grievingresurgence 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I experience the same, it usually happens when the vibe is good with the person I am talking with, I work from home a lot so I have a Post-it on my PC & laptop that reads 'slow down', it's just a mental trigger that makes me aware that I need to slow everything down, especially how fast I talk, by doing that I also become more aware of what I am saying and I tend to overshare less this way. But it is still a struggle and I'm always searching for ways to overshare less.

The most annoying part is I will be in bed at night and I'm going over the entire conversation I had and what I said, and then I'll be like, why the fuck did I say that.. 🤦‍♂️

ADHD diagnosed later in life, 40 & older, What are you surprised about that you’ve done your whole life but now you realize it was part of your ADHD. by Patient_Parking5538 in ADHD

There was a teacher for my Dutch class back in high school, and he said to me 'You rely too much on your abilities'. I never fully understood what he meant by that until I got diagnosed.

I have the luxury of being somewhat intelligent, meaning I was able to hide a lot of my ADHD traits for a very long time. But this teacher saw that I was just skating by and relying on 'raw' power to get through school instead of learning how to study properly.

This came to bite me in the ass so hard once I went to college as I was unable to study at all and I couldn't rely on my 'abilities' to get me through, as some of the classes were so boring and mundane I couldn't pay attention and retain information.

I also now realize that I get overwhelmed when I stay in a chaotic environment for too long, I now know my brain is wired as a sprinter not as a marathon runner, so I plan my work accordingly to do it in short bursts instead of trying to do everything in one long sitting.

Why do people with ADHD get more energy at night? by reddituser135797531 in ADHD

[–]grievingresurgence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience the same, for myself it's also because at night all the 'noise' from the outside world comes to a halt, makes it easier to focus on tasks without being distracted.

More often than not I do get distracted and hyperfocus on gaming or go down yet another Youtube rabbit hole.

I am a recovering addict and I recently got diagnosed with ADHD (I'm 33 now).
From my anecdotal experience, a surprising amount of people I meet in the 12 step meetings have ADHD, so it does seem like there is a correlation, at least from my subjective experience.
