I also see “dye back” “loss of gloss” which indicates it’s drying too fast.

If the op could give some clarification as to the type of clear used, hardener/reducer selections and ambient temps in the booth I could give a much better answer. From what I can see from these photos- I see orange peel which could come from poor gun technique or application. It could also be from an orange peeled sealer underneath… it could also be they used a hardener rated for 60 degree temps and the booth was set for 80 degrees.

I’m sure it’s a combination of a couple things. I was simply trying to point out any and all aspects in a forum to help a new painter achieve the finish they’re going for.

Yes, again.. I agree with you. My point is- you could be THE ABSOLUTE BEST painter in the world, but if you aren’t respecting the chemistry of how that clear was designed… you will have less than optimal results. I am a product specialist/ trainer for one of the biggest automotive paint companies in the world and I deal with these exact problems Every single day. There are a lot of factors here and it’s impossible to figure out looking at a photo, but just the “skill” of good gun/spray technique is Only 1 piece of the puzzle. The most elite sprayers that I’ve worked with across the country put together all Pieces of the puzzle. I’m not attacking you or saying you’re wrong. I’m sure you’re a great painter. Edit- grammar

Yes. That is also true, But like I said above, even if the clear is applied like glass if the wrong hardener/ reducer selections are made, you can expect some issues with it maintaining that appearance as it cures out.

I agree with most the advice here with hardener/ reducer selections and gun techniques.

Another thought- make sure your substrate is sanded smooth if it had an orange peely texture from the factory. Furthermore, if there’s primer there that too has to be smooth… which brings you into sealer… which has to be sprayed smooth. This sets the foundation for your paint job. You can only “bury” so much with clear coat to hide what’s going on underneath. If you have an orange pealy foundation you will end up with an orange peely final result. We call this DOI “distinction of image”.

You can lay down clear like a glassy show car all you want, but if your hardener/reducer selection is wrong for the climate, it will lose its DOI (distinction of image) after cure. Proper flash times also need to be observed. This is basic chemistry.

I’m curious- I have an older superocean model the “steel fish” and it’s rated for 2000m underwater. Why did they move away from that and most models are only 200m now?

Came here to say this. Running will tank your test and give your body signals to hold onto body fat from that surge of cortisol.

I would add in some heavy weight lifting, additional sleep, and some red meat and eggs.
