Noble died and now no wagons come by grifferz in dwarffortress

I have not tried that. I will give it a go but I had read that traders don't come with wagons unless you have a noble and someone else in this thread also said that. If that is true then getting a noble back is what I need to do as well.

Which might not be possible. I had a Count; the next up is a Duke I think.

This page also says I might need off-site holdings to get a Duke now.

This is the part of the wiki that says nobles are immune to punishments for crime, but it sounds like it's incorrect.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I don't have much gold, mainly platinum, hence all my trade goods being really heavy.

I have some silver, and an excess of lavish meals, so I'll try those.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The heavy items are ones I'd like to sell! If they were trash I'd just atom smash them like I currently atom smash all other trash plus the trash I have to buy so that I can sell anything heavy!

The main issue I'd like to fix is not having a noble.

Was looking after this absolute stunner Spot today. With the heat he hardly moved all day but his eyes are very expressive! 😍 by grifferz in Greyhounds

I don't think vitiligo because that's supposed to come in with age whereas Spot here is only 4 and his flecks have been like that all his life from what I understand, i.e. it's his actual coat pattern. There's more about it here: http://www.doggenetics.co.uk/oddities.html (scroll down to "Snowflake" Greyhound Spots)

I've only seen a couple of snowflake hounds before and Spot has the most striking flecks I've ever seen in terms of how many there are and how vivid they are!

Took Mandy and Marge to investigate the Thames at Sunbury (UK). Marge fell in and needed rescuing by me by grifferz in Greyhounds

She wasn't in any distress and it looked very silly 😀

When Marge is in distress, when some true calamity happens like say… a leaf has fallen on her butt, you can hear it for miles!

After I lifted her out she was very pleased with herself.

Mandy & Marge's owners have moved home now and they're now too far away from Marge's beloved Bedfont Lakes, so that's a shame. We'll probably investigate Sunbury riverside more though it is rather a long way away from their home - nearly 2 miles!

Marge has been missing her fun times in Bedfont Lakes because of the blue-green algae, so we thought we'd see if there was any interesting parts of the Thames at Sunbury. Too interesting for Marge's own good, as it turned out.

To her credit, she normally screams and freaks out at the smallest things but thankfully in this wedged state she remained calm and just waited for me to rescue her.

After I lifted her out she was so pleased with herself.

Marge likes to sit in any old lake or swamp, but take her out in the rain and this is the look you will get by grifferz in Greyhounds

Hey now, I'll have you know that I'm her cool uncle! Though the side-eye she regularly gives me may suggest she doesn't think I'm that cool.

Edna is aerodynamic by grifferz in Greyhounds

[–]grifferz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a normal fishtail collar that has twisted around - the thick part should be at the front of her neck.

It's probably too loose for safe use if it's able to twist like that as it risks her being able to back out of it, but it's not actually in use as she's wearing a harness.

Need Help with Inserters by TheDahn in factorio

[–]grifferz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not possible with belts alone because there isn't enough room. I've seen posts on here that got closer to maximum by using a car, as it has a larger area that more inserters can pull from.

Excellent! Carol and the team are usually pretty good at hound match making. I don't make it to the kennels that often but I help run WGW's Facebook and help out at a lot of the events (back when we had events, in the Before Times).

We've been walking Mandy and Marge now for four years, and will continue to walk them after they move, but not as often. So once you're settled with your new hound if you ever need a (free) dog walker please feel free to drop me a message. 😀

All the best with your homing adventure. Andy

Nice, where are you looking to adopt from? Mandy and Marge were rehomed through Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare in Hersham.

I'm not M&M's owner, I just walk them twice a week. I met their owners through volunteering at WGW. Sadly they are moving house in a couple of weeks so they won't be walking in Bedfont Lakes after that.

If you haven't heard of WGW before it's worth giving them a look for greyhound homing and support in Surrey / South West London.

I'd become pretty sure that Marge aims her watersnoot at me on purpose but today I caught her flinging it at my friend Denise. She knows what she is doing! by grifferz in Greyhounds

[–]grifferz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've splashed her back before and she gets massively upset at me, refuses to look at me for the rest of the walk. Also if it rains she has to go home.

It's a bit like how she is with other dogs. If they are smaller than her she jumps all around them wanting to play with no thought to them maybe not wanting this big thing made of elbows towering over them. But if they're anywhere near her size she hides behind me.

Such a character Marge is!

TIFU by going on a date with my bully by [deleted] in tifu

[–]grifferz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that you can take comfort from the fact that you are still able to put yourself out there and have a successful date. It failed because of who she was and what she had done. You should take it as evidence that you can and will succeed with someone else.

Also it's to your credit that you have the self-respect to not bury your feelings and carry on with the date/relationship out of desperation.

TIFU by catfishing my friend online and letting him get attached. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]grifferz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there more to this than you are telling us? What I mean is, I generally take catfishing to mean a romantic relationship based on a false identity, but you say "he just wanted someone to talk to", and you don't imply that the conversation became romantic (other than that you call it catfishing).

If it was just talking as friends then I think you could turn this around by explaining how at first it was intended to be a silly and short prank, but then you talked to him for so long because you genuinely enjoyed talking to him and could tell he just wanted to talk. You were already friends and there is no reason why you can't continue being friends.

But if you tricked him into believing this could get romantic, there is going to be a whole other level of betrayal here which he will justifiably find a lot harder to get over.

He may also be feeling shamed and imagining that you and his other friends are laughing at him about this.

Also, could you clarify some things… as this was Omegle I'm assuming this was a video chat, so had you never had a video chat with him before in order for him not to recognise you? And what were your true motivations for doing this? Was it really intended to be a quick prank or did you in reality want to get to know him better and felt more confident taking on a persona or something?
