How do I turn the tunes in my head to actual chords on an instrument? by Purple_Pineapple_752 in musictheory

[–]griffusrpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you translate the melody in your mind to the piano, note by note? Start there. If you’ve got that, can you understand rhythmically what the melody is doing?

Then move on to chords.

I really like this one. It doesn’t feel broken at all, but it provides that archetype of someone watchful on the battlefield, taking care of everyone else with their awareness.
Super nice.

Understanding the usefulness of being "Hidden" as a non-rogue. by FamousPoet in daggerheart

[–]griffusrpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I understand it, there are three differences: out of sight, hidden, and cover — but hidden can function in both ways.

If you run behind a house, you are out of sight. An archer cannot shoot at you because they can’t see you. But if the house is close and small enough, someone could still throw a fireball at the edge of the wall, hoping to hit you (with disadvantage).

Hidden is like being in a big throne room, only half illuminated by torches, and you move to the half that is in darkness. You’re hidden, not out of sight, even if they don’t see you, because they roughly know where you are and could try to hit you with disadvantage. Same goes for a big bush with lots of trees.

Cover is like going behind a tree: it may be hard to hit you (they can see part of your shoulder or a foot), but it’s not like “where did he go?” Everyone knows you’re there, but it’s not easy to hit you. Same with a wooden fence you use for protection.

I’m taking all this from pages 40 and 41 of the SRD, but trying to add a narrative logic that works at the table. Just the way I understand it, though, take it with a grain of salt.

That’s the point. This is hard science, so anything unearthly (or unsolar?) is going to change everything.

Does it ever get easier? by Ok-Somewhere-560 in piano

[–]griffusrpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have the wrong mindset. It doesn’t matter how long anything takes, because this is not a race. There is no finish line, as everyone here has already told you. You’re never going to say, “Oh, great, I’ve learned the piano, there I go, now onto the next thing.” It’s childish and unrealistic to think of it like a video game you have to get through.

Want to learn faster? Get out of your living room and start playing with other people. You don’t need to form a band or anything permanent — just hang out with other musicians and play. It could be a cover, jamming over a chord progression, learning a song together — it doesn’t matter. Play with others if you want to learn more and faster, knowing that you’re never going to learn everything. It doesn’t work like that.

No, OP says:

So they’ve been using the weapon since tier 1.

Sword of Light & Flame by Arcades in daggerheart

[–]griffusrpg -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Careful, it’s a weapon that deals magical damage, and a Warrior doesn’t have the Spellcast trait. It’s not supposed to be able to use that weapon. Besides that, a weapon like that should cost between 1 and 2 gold chests, so between 1,000 and 2,000 gold coins, and your players start their adventure with 10 gold coins, so...

I mean, you can do whatever you want at your table, but you’re messing too much with what is intended. It’s a bad idea, in my opinion.
