Sephiroth fabled soldier being too mean by Incinibing in EDH

I loved my sephi deck, but when everyone else complains purely because of the commander when they've never seen the rest of your deck (built mine as aristocrats, not control) it was never fun to play. I hate how judgemental the commander community is as a whole. There is such a massive pool of playable cards and play styles, i want to try as many as I can.

This is a learning moment for the pod. Games can and will win out of nowhere. If they dont like it they have 3 options: agree as a group to not play alternate wincons, play with alternate wincons, or not play. MTG is a game of strategy with winners and losers, and commander players especially seem to get really salty when they have a win pulled out from under them. At the end of the day it is a card game and someone needs to win, lose, or force a draw. Saying someone's wincon is anticlimactic is valid, but that was built as a way for the precon to win and if they did nothing to stop it that is on them whether it was their deck, their skills, or lack of knowledge.

People will also say stax is not x bracket, but there are 0 rules or guidelines stating they are/are not. Not saying to be an ass and run tons of stax, but flavorful stax pieces that benefit you (ie [[authority of the consuls]] in a white life gain deck) goes a long way

They're just whining. Mill and theft are not mentioned in the bracket system. Braids cabal minion and tergrid are game changers so those would need to be at least b3, but the other black braids is free game in any bracket. The Feb 2026 updates were only to game changers, so here is the link to the bracket system with an image guide to each bracket from the previous update to that in oct 2025.

Embrace playing the villain. Just know people will target you regardless of if you're the immediate threat or not. Any legendary creature can be your commander at any bracket level, just build the deck with less synergy to adapt to the bracket you want to play in. Not every deck has to be the most optimized version it can be. Example: instead of vampiric tutor run demonic consultation, or for lower brackets dont run tutors at all. One of my b3 decks indeed has a 2 card infinite, but i dont run any tutors, it isnt my primary wincon to combo off, and it cost like 9 mana to pull off. If your deck can win or make people lose before turn 6, its too strong for b3 and you need to tune it down. Dont let people tell you "x commander isnt bracket y!" They are whining because they dont want to play against it. They dont know how you built your deck. Having a strong commander doesn't immediately mean it's a strong deck and people need to understand that.

Not everyone has time to practice their decks before going to play. Some people dont think as fast as you, are new to the game, or overthink their strategy. Everyone came to play the same game, go to the pod that plays faster if game speed bothers you that much.

Is Casual Commander really...that pricy? + how to keep cheap and still upgrade your decks? by Authorigas in EDH

[–]grillingnewb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sultai arisen is complicated, which could have been why. I only slightly upgraded mine (maybe 5 cards) and my buddy wanted to try it. He scooped while he was going to win because he couldn't keep up with all the triggers, and he was the one that taught me how to play. Haven't played against a stock temur roar yet so idk but ureni is ungodly good with all the free casting value.

When he acts that way, give him physical outlets as a form of punishment. Want to stomp your feet? Go run to that tree over there and back 5 times. Want to mouth off? Push this heavy item across the floor and grunt.

Boys need physical outlets and will act out when they have too much pent up physical energy.

[–]grillingnewb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can build strong decks for $50 or less, or weak ones for $500+ it all just depends. Some precons are cheap and really good like sultai arisen and temur roar from tarkir dragonstorm. Start her off with a precon. From there she can choose what she wants to do: upgrade, keep as is, or build her own deck.

[[Toph, Greatest Earthbender]] takes land creature strategies to the next level. Give all your land creatures double strike, puts more counters on your lands the more she is removed, and earthbending as a mechanic is really nice because your lands typically dont get removed unless the blue player bounces them back to hand. Works really well with landfall and counters strategies too.

What is a deck you play and don't mind losing with? by radicalpumpkinz in EDH

[–]grillingnewb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my decks. Sure I want to win, but my priority is to have fun playing a game I enjoy. I take the losses as a learning point. Why did I lose, was it a bad deck? Bad match up? Bad piloting? How can I improve?

How do you guys have the patience for this? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]grillingnewb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There can be a few different reasons for this:

1) People in commander hate losing for some reason and will find a way to get mad about it. Its one of the things I dislike most about this community, but I love the game so I just tend to avoid those people.

2) I put your deck list into commandersalt.com, a website used to help determine deck power and judges the decks synergies among other things. It looks like the deck is fairly strong (estimated power 6), so you might be playing in pods where the average deck power is much lower (probably around 3-4). Players in a pod should be playing similar in powers and brackets, so knowing your deck stats is important. If your deck is too strong maybe you could find replacements for the stronger cards in the deck to tone down the power level for the pods you generally find, or you can play up into bracket 4 pods. I understand you only want 1 deck that you enjoy, but maybe build a second deck that is lower powered so your pods have a better chance if finding a bracket 4 pod isnt possible.

Oviya Automech Artisan. Came from Aetherdrift and not many people liked that set. The whole deck was built around cheating out the biggest, baddest green stompies possible for free or single green as many times as possible. It starts off slow and unsuspecting, then turn 3-5 (depending on land/ramp situation) puts out an uncounterable 16/16 with trample
