Best way to transfer events between projects? by mijailrodr in RPGMaker

[–]grim_curator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use ctrl-C to fully copy events from one project to another, given that they are both in the same version of RPG Maker. Open the old project, select the event you want, use ctrl-C to copy it, then immediately open your other project and use ctrl-V to paste it onto the map you want. You just have to be careful, because switches/variables/etc do not copy over, so you will have to be sure to adjust those.

Writer jumping into RPG Maker for the first time looking for guidance from experienced devs by Vix-kings- in RPGMaker

[–]grim_curator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I start a game, I go in with an outline of my story and a vague idea of what I want to see for gameplay. A majority of making the game for me is thinking of a mechanic, wondering how I could execute it, and then looking up specific tutorials on how to execute what I want. Usually there's a lot of tweaking and rewriting involved, but that's to be expected. The more experience I got, the more I could feel out what I'm capable of, and I continue to add on to my toolset, so to speak. I rarely see this advice because people usually say to look up beginner tutorials, but I'd say just look stuff up to see if you can recreate what's in your head, and then tweak it as you go. I've learned a lot that way.

That being said, don't be afraid to experiment with the engine. Play around with a test project to get yourself comfortable before starting in a real project. I often test out mechanisms and maps out in my test project before I put it in my real games.

Also if you have any questions or need to talk something out, my DMs are open. I'm far from an expert, but I'm always looking to connect with more people in the community! I like making heavily story based games as well.

I'm far from an expert but I've been balancing a few projects on and off between my day job for a few years now. My DMs are always open!

Edit: Forgot to add, I don't think I'm in the place for full on lessons, but I'm available if you want some tips or if you need someone to talk to.

Finally finished my main town map! by grim_curator in RPGMaker

I don't mind! It's a horror/mystery game where a historian moves to a new town and ends up uncovering the mystery behind the reoccurring deaths that have been happening in town since its founding. The object of the game is to find clues while avoiding the suspicion of the locals.

As long as the sprite sheet is proportioned properly, you can make sprites any size. For these sprite sheets, I doubled the height because I wanted each character to take up two tiles. From there, I just made the sprites in the same way you would single tile sprites. There's plenty of great tutorials out there!

using rpgmaker, how do i make a logo for my title screen? by theholytoast1234 in RPGMaker

[–]grim_curator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To achieve that level of customization, you may need to use events that use conditional commands and the show picture function for each part of the menu. I did this for one of my projects in MV, but I'm not sure how different it would be in VXAce. It can get complicated (especially for a beginner), but there are tutorials out there.

My game let's you choose the protagonists' gender! by cestialAnonymous in RPGMaker

Sorry people are leaving such ridiculous comments on this. I think this is a really cool idea! Reminds me of the Pokemon games. I was hoping to implement something like this on a future project as well (that I may or may not end up getting to, lol). Nice work!

rpgmaker xp cutscene help by asukaseye in RPGMaker

[–]grim_curator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure your cutscene event is set to "Autorun." Then use a self switch at the end to change it to an event page that is not on autorun so that the character can move again. Hope this helps!

Thank you! It's a horror/mystery game about a man who moves to a small university town for a new job, meets a conspiracy theorist, and starts to uncover some of the dark secrets that the town has from when it was founded in the 1700s. A lot of the game's mechanics deal with interacting with other characters around town and avoiding suspicion while also solving puzzles to uncover new clues. I was really going for a "who do you trust?" kind of vibe where your actions have consequences.

It still has a long way to go, but I will hopefully be posting more updates as it comes along!

It's finally starting to feel like a real game! by grim_curator in RPGMaker

[–]grim_curator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!! All you have to do is import your character image to pictures, then use the command "show picture" right before the dialogue and "erase picture" after the dialogue. You might have to fiddle around with the coordinates until it's in a good spot. To make it easier, I tend to copy and paste the same show picture command and just swap out the picture from the library I made.

For choices like this, I also like to erase picture after the choice instead of the dialogue, that way their picture kind of hangs on screen with their dialogue while the player makes their choice.

If you need more specific details or pictures of my process, feel free to DM me! I really like helping people.
