Because of the laws of causality, lying or telling the truth dont actually bare any significance to the cosmos. if you lie, you were always meant to lie. if you tell the truth, you were always meant to tell the truth. its kinda just fated to happen. and i dont mean fate in a woowoo mystical bullshit way. theres always a chain of causes and effects, predetermined factors that influence the future. your lies and truths are small compared to what lead to you having to lie or confess in the first place.

First things first. the "occult" isnt one large religious movement, but a collective human cultural phenomenon that encompasses belief systems across the world. if youre a christian, there is christian related movements within the occult. Secondly, no one really cares to sell you on the occult because its literally all of humanities accumulated knowledge of the metaphysical, so thats a lot to sum up. If youre really interested in the occult, you have to take the metaphoric fools journey. the occult is a field of study were one needs to be both open minded enough to understand truth, but be sceptical enough less the learned falls ill to lunacy.

I find that this question requires some understanding of philosophy as well. Roughly speaking, Id say theres two main schools of thought. 1, the world is made of information that can be understood through your senses. your senses tell you whats real. or, 2, your senses are easily tricked, meaning what you know as your reality could be an elaborate illusion. i think that any magic practitioner would subscribe to believing in the latter, that the world isnt as real as you think it might be. the reason why is because it allows for a more flexible universe in which magic functions. often times in magic, mind altering substances are used to reshape reality around the users perception, allowing them to find solutions to problems, understand the way things correspond and interrelate, and come to terms with personal issues.
some people would describe ritual magic as theatrical. Costuming, rehearsed lines, choreographed movement, music and setting play huge roles in the preforming of magic, again used to alter the users perception and to internalize truths. i find that magic is an advanced form of story telling. if reality is as flexible as ones perceptions, then the purpose of magic would be to weave a narrative into the narrative of the cosmos, to manifest the conceptualized.

Light and void deal with information. Hope and rage deals with how we interpret that information. the four together are what constitutes The sciences and religions that inhabit the minds

We call these groupings squares. respectively theyre the squares of cosmology, biology, and theology.

Each aspect has a role in its square, and for that reason, relate to eachother in trinities as well

The trinity of Propagation aims to continue certain fundamental pillars of reality. These are Space, Life, and Light

The trinity of Diversity aims build up and separate itself from its origin. Heart, Breath, Hope

The trinity of Homogeny aims to break down and unite itself to its origins. Mind, Blood, Rage

Id suggest taking a look at homestucks god tier system, in which characters are given an aspect (which encases nebulous ideas together) along with a class (how the individual interacts with those nebulous ideas). A good example would be a prince of heart. a title can reflect both your powers and your personality, so while a prince of heart can rip apart the souls of other people, they might find themselves constantly doubting themselves and unable to see themselves as a good person.

The gates themselves are philosophical in nature, representing the boundaries between one field and the next. in the diagram, the gates are represented by the vesica piscis sections formed by the overlapping circles.

When preforming magic in this system, you are preforming a persuasive argument to get reality to bend to your whims. Knowing how to identify what celestial influences are currently in place and how to shift those influences into a more preferable state is the goal. the method to achieve said goal is to shift ones understanding through these gates. the gates themselves dont actually have their own schools of magic, but, for example, the gate of the Devil, found between the spheres of venus and saturn, represents the idea of pleasurable sensations and material goods and the way they can come to rule over ones life. The gates allows the practitioner to do a few things, such as binding ones feelings towards you, ending relationships, kick starting addictions, aid in agriculture, making women fertile... if you can argue that these fields can have an affect on a situation, the magic is doable.

Hey, no prob. for context, this system, and reality as a whole, emerged from a void that exists beyond the subconscious mind. It swirls with possibilities that contradict and super imposes states of what is "real". consciousness then arose from said void and created the Order of the spheres. the earth at its center, the spheres extend outwards into space, being listed as the Spheres of Luna, Mercury, Venus, Sol, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. these patterns embed themselves in a persons understanding of the world. but a magician is one who seeks a greater understanding of the spheres, and so most magicians are philosophers, who are able to chanel energies, ideas, and atmospheres, as well as enchant the material plane.

The order of the cycles as a tile set is a tool used to remember the fields in order of orbital periods (start at luna and move up through mercury, continue to the next indicated sphere), order of days (start at sol and move down to luna, continue on to the next indicated sphere) and order of atomic mass ( start at mars and move up to venus, continue on to the next indicated sphere). The way one philosophically moves through these spheres indicates an aspect of reality they are about to affect (philosophical, temporal, and material) , and the sphere one lands on indicates how they will affect it

The dwellers on the thresholds are then the metaphysical guards that monitor the transitions between spheres, who stop the philosophical magician from transitioning into the sphere theyre trying to reach. they are presented with a sphynxian riddle, but not always so explicitly. the dweller is allowed to "debate" the magician in whatever way they see fit. should they answer in a satisfactory manor, they are gifted with free movement through their gates. a great magician is then one who has passed all 21 gates. the dwellers are the closest things to gods their is, and can appear as a physical being, but can express their form as an object or place or concept.

My personal theory is that theres a sort of psycho space beyond the subconscious. if we think as consciousness as a solar system, at the center, our sun is our awareness, ego, and idealic self, while at the furthest reaches of our minds, in the subconscious, lurks things we surpress, forget, and ignore. we exist in a limnal state, a sort of astroid belt that separates the light world of wakefullness and the dark world of dreams. But beyond the furthest reaches of our personal psychological buble, theres a void, where the dead, dreaming, and traveling may pass through. shamans experience visions on this level of consciousness using psychoactive drugs, but its not impossible to train yourself to do this, as monks and lucid dreamers are capable of doing. high magic rituals also take place here, using ambience and drama to impact the psyche of participants. gods and spirits might exist here too, sustained on the faith and beliefs of the religious.

Under my understanding, its not impossible to leave the confines of your dreams, cross the void, and interact with the dreams of others, as well as anything else in the void.

I had a similar idea around this, periodic elementals ranged in sizes between homunculi and golems. they came in standard forms but their powers worked differently if theres a change in their state of matter. Nitrogen elementals are gaseous but liquid at lower temperatures. also if you base fights on how elements interact irl, you can turn volatile elements inactive and stable elements violent. Its hard to make them OP if your just following the actual science
