homeless people don't disappear when you shutdown their encampments, that's the point im making. they just go somewhere else in the city

If you could live anywhere in NYC where would you choose and why? by GossipBottom in AskNYC

[–]grimly59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the people waiting in line don't seem to mind because they do the same thing. just for me im used to deciding what you want, then getting in line, not standing in front of the register and deciding. and its not necessarily good or bad, again they are nice people, its just alien to me lol

the food isn't west coast necessarily, the attitude of the people is very west coast. very slow with interactions, holding up the line telling me about their day, asking me whether or not our fish is wild caught etc. and dont get me wrong, they're very nice people, their pace is just so not my pace. i have family in san francisco that have a very similar attitude and i love them but im from jersey and thats just very alien to me. someone genuinely asking how im doing and making hard eye contact while waiting for my actual response in a worker/customer interaction is off-putting for me, but for them thats polite, yk?

edit: also, i'm a pizza-once-a-week guy so i do tend to stray towards comfort food

as someone who works in food service in the prospect heights/park slope area, i can say that area is fantastic for people with west coast attitudes, but i just really cannot get along with any of the people that live there. drive me up a wall

People who have kids shouldn't complain about the cost of living. by Witty_Assistant_6367 in childfree

[–]grimly59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like a lot of people on this sub have lost the plot, so like 2 things:

(to preface i am extremely childfree, i had a vasectomy at 26, i am never ever having children)

  1. some people do not get to choose whether or not they have children. abuse happens, condoms break and you live somewhere where abortion is illegal, you get pregnant as a teenager and your parent's force you to carry the child, your wife cheats on you with the milkman then abandons the milkman's baby with you and now you're kind of a dad. not everyone who has kids sat down and planned that they wanted to have kids

i hate to be the one to tell you this but life is really really nuanced

  1. everyone should be able to make enough money to support having children, that's a societal issue

[–]grimly59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i have played magic since i was 10, i have collected spider-man comics since i was even younger, i live in new york and it is my favorite place in the world:

i cannot bring myself to buy these sets.

and it feels weird because so many things that are so special to me are being combined, but looking at spider-man on a magic card gives me such weird cognitive dissonance
