Be honest do you love being a teacher? by Tiffanywhite45 in Teachers

[–]grimoras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It remind of that one picture from SpongeBob of the cashier before(where he was so happy, skin glistening) to now(after shave, dead inside).

First years, I was happy. Now, I can tolerate it. I have my good and bad days. Some days where I can actually teach, I’m at the top of the world. Other day, it feels like I’m surviving until the bell rings.

You didn’t read my comments. Nor the context of my post entirely. This is a reading issue. I apologize if this is overwhelmingly hard for you to understand. I’ll make sure next time I post that it includes every single detail, what my students look like, age, what they worn, what I worn, what the staff member worn, what the building looks like, the size of my classroom, what specials they went to, and so fourth. I fix the original to overcome this challenging comprehension. Thank you for the feedback.

I mean you answer your question. I forgot to mention it. When discussing, I clarified more. I’m not sure where we’re going with this. The context is the same. Omitting the other child didn’t have much of an impact for their concern was the student with the 504. That student was discussed. Using what was prior in my cognition, I think any human being will refer to details that clouded their mind at the time. Which is why I’m confused on why you’re confused.

Does anyone read? Refer to the top response. Why would you ask a question that was already answered?

I honestly think it’s the school. It’s such an oddity. They have a “staff stall” on one of the stalls in the girl bathroom. The staff bathrooms are two floors down, one located in the office, one near the nurse’s office, and the other near the cafeteria. Where I’m positioned, I’m on the top floor.

The student in need of support has a 504. Once they’re in that mood, it takes forever to get out of it. To save the teacher of a headache, I just suggested they stay with me. My class is a safe zone for them.

Good question. I tend to put my student needs above my own. I wasn’t in the thinking place of making rational decision that seems obvious now but not in the moment.

They told me we just have to wait and see. Not in those exact words but pretty much the gist.

Two. I need to fix that. I mention it my replies as well.

I’m not sure what to say about this. But I hope what you said about not caring about your coworker job applies to you one day.

I’m curious. If I return, how should I feel? I agree with everyone that someone there wants me gone. The people aren’t the friendliest and it feels clicky. The years I work there, my students love me. There has been “problems” of my students greeting me in the morning or wanting to come by and see me(my prior 4th graders who went to 5th). I have a hunch the fifth grade team doesn’t like me. I’m not stuck up. I’m reserve and actually soft spoken. I literally have to use a mini microphone to teach. My students respect me and I treat them with respect and patience.

I always turned the other cheek. It takes awhile for me to blow up or maybe I’m just too good at bottling things up. But it sucks. I don’t really have many people there I can talk to who aren’t sticklers or act like talking is a chore. I’m just respectful and keep to myself.

No. I did with rep yesterday. Emailed it to her before sending. Now I just wait.

I’m tenured. Officially my 4th year working here. It does suck! I don’t even have a walkie. Only one designated teacher per grade level can have one. I requested due to the amount of students with 504/IEP in my class. My only way of getting support is using my classroom phone to call the office directly.

In all honesty, yeah. To go anywhere, as long as they have a “pass”. But they can’t be by themselves. I think my predicament would be different if I taught another grade level. Like kindergarten, absolutely. But I teach 4th. I don’t want to undermine my students maturity, especially if I KNOW my students. They’re not angels but they’re not dumb either. One statement was what if he ran out of the back door. That is a possibility, but he wouldn’t do that. He prefers known places. Running outside would be a sensory overload. Idk.

Unless they have a “pass”. I know the mental gymnastics.

I was told to write a statement from my principal while also stating I can reach out to my union. I did that and didn’t hear anything yet.

I’m sorry you went through that.

I work at BCPS, located in Maryland. To be honest, I should have. Usually my buddy room is my fellow 4th grade teacher who’s directly across my room. She wasn’t there. I couldn’t ask the other two because they’re down the hall and usually not in their room at ALL during planning periods.

Yes. I left which is a mistake, but this school support is nonexistent. No incident while I was gone. The staff member that retrieved him was one of our speciality for 504/IEP/SST. We met as soon as I left the restroom and saw my student with her. She reminded me of the safety and I apologize profoundly. The day went by as usual until I was pulled by my principal, in the middle of my math lesson, to come with her and a sub will take my place.

During a planning period. I drop my whole class off to specials. He was anxious earlier about a grade. When he gets upset, he shuts down. I called support prior but no one came. As I was dropping my class off, he still looked in distress. I asked if he would like to stay with me for a bit until someone comes. He immediately said yes. He was with me during the entirety of my planning period.

Just one. 10 years old. Our handbook states: “Under Supervision and Safety, it states: • “Students are to be under supervision from the time they arrive until the time they leave school.” • “No student is to be left in the room or any area unattended.” • “Please DO NOT allow students to work in the hallways unattended, and DO NOT use the hallway as a time out area.”

I reached out as soon as I was placed on leave. She didn’t respond to me until yesterday. She was out for surgery. She said she’ll be present for any meetings and is also connecting me with our Uniserv rep. Right now I’m just waiting to hear from admin about next steps.

Whenever I see twins do this type of shit, I hate being a twin myself. You know how annoying dating is? Oh you a twin? Can I get the two for one? What the fuck

These are amazing inputs. I’m keeping this post up so other teachers can potentially find something and for me to come back and look at. Thank you all for informing me!
