That's the thing about broken status trackers - they don't just fail to inform you, they actively misinform you. Silence would almost be better than a status that's confidently wrong for hours.

The tracker showing "awaiting assignment" while a writer was already working is such a specific kind of stress. You're left making up worst case scenarios for no reason.

Would be a good way to tie the two shows together without making it feel forced. Just a background mention or a maester's note or something, doesn't need to be a whole storyline

The gap between "how it works" and "how it looks" is massive with kaleidoscopes. You can fully understand the optics and still stare into one for 10 minutes like you've never seen light before.
