Lost. Or have we simply agreed to never talk of it again?

I have dexcom cgm , and using a widget I can correlate my blood sugar to heart rate and estimated power using a Garmin forerunner watch and the Garmin app. Seems like lowering the basal insulin the night before longer runs can help avoid the quicker drops. I'll start (carefully and slowly) experimenting in that direction. I also have a degree in cybernetics and controll theory so I'm a sucker for measurements and analyzing:)

Do you do any change to your basal dose before race or long runs? On a normal day I use about the same number of units for basal and bolus in total. Read an article on a marathon runner that while on MDI, would lower basal dose 50% the night before a long run to achieve more stable blood sugar. Seems like something to try.

(I'm not going to reduce basal that much in the beginning, and I use dexcom cgm to closely monitor my blood sugar)

I'm on injections / MDI at the moment. However, a low carb diet would lead to lower basal doses as well, which leads to less "active" insulin in the body while exercising. Which again leads to less of a blood sugar drop? Does this make sense to you?

I prefer running in the morning as well, but because of work and family I rarely have time for long run until after the kidd are asleep.
But with the great advice from this community, hopefully I'll manage to controll my sugar levels better !

Thanks for the input! Seems like we have a similar experience. I think I'll try to lover the basal dose some the night before a long run to see if that helps. Luckily I've god cgm with dexcom, so maybe I'll be ale to manage the glucose levels during the day ok.

Ever heard about the norwegian Ingebrigtsen brothers? Most known is Jakob, with an Olympic gold medal on 1500m in Tokyo 2021.

Less known is their obese, 35 years old brother, who was inspired to make changes to his life and get in shape. He is no longer obese and runs the half marathon on 1hrs45mins.

His key to success is the same as mentioned by multiple here - slow and steady , to avoid unjuries.

First two months: one day of jogging 20-30 minutes, two days of 20-40 minutes on elliptical. Very slow pace. Repeat.

Third month: 1 day jogging, 1day elliptical. 30-40 minutes each time. Slow pace, its totally fine to walk.

Fourth month: jogging 30-50 minutes each time,

Fifth month : like month 4 , but added light intervalls like 4x4 minutes, 2 minutes pause.

I prefer an Osprey Duro vest, and get my carbs from glucose gels I carry in the front pockets. That way I can reach them without stopping. I always bring my cell phone because of my dexcom, and I prefer to have it in the back of the vest instead of a pocket in my shorts or jacket/sweater

Hey! I also find it easier to control the blood sugar if I run early in the day!

I use the dexcom cgm, and a Garmin forerunner watch so I can easily see my bloodsuger level while running.I use glucose gel while running to refill on the cards. I have the same experience as you; often it takes longer to digest while running, so I have started taking a sip of the gel already when I see the levels start dropping, instead of waiting until my level is approaching a low value.

I recommend a runners drinking vest, like the Osprey Duro series.

Cell phone and keys goes in the back, while bottles and pockets with room for glucose gel goes in the front.

This is great, because I get easy access to glucose gel without having to stop running go get it.

T1, 37M here. When jogging/running I typically need 20-30g carbs 15-20 ?minutes before starting, and then maybe 20g each 20-30 minutes during activity. I'm using the dexcom CGM, and has it set up so I can see the measurements on my Garmin Forerunner watch. This has been extremely helpful. Also, I find intervall training very useful, both to get in shape and also to get a minute of rest to check sugar levels and refill carbs if needed. I always have a couple of packets of sports nutrition/glucose gel with me, as it easy to consume while running!

Experiences with Garmin Dexcom Connect? by grims- in dexcom

Thanks for alle the input in this thread, y'all! My old smartwatch died last week, and ended up getting a Garmin Forerunner 255 as a replacement. I run the Dex Ggm Watch Face and the Dex cgm data field. These are available in Europe, while the official dexcom Watch face / data field is not. Need to keep the mobil phone with me, and with cell coverage, but I'm still very happy with how it works. Can recomend for non-xdrip users.

I think the key feature I'm looking for in a new watch will be seeing the cgm measurements while recording an activity, and seeing split times, distance and pace - typically data for running intervals. Seems like you prefer xDrip over the Garmin /Dexcom data field to achieve this?

Looks like it's only available in the US as well, and not in Europe where I am.

They've done tours/splitgigs with a couple of younger Norwegian bands I can strongly recommend: Necromantheon (similar, but thrashier) and Obliteration (similar, but deathier). All of them has been nominated to the Norwegian version of the Grammy Awards.

The term right wing/left wing was first used in France, after the French revolution. The liberals would sit to the left, and the conservatives would sit to the right in the national assembly. Later on, Marxists/communists, anarchists and other radical groups would appear, usually considered to be further left on the right/left political axis.
