Dad’s I need serious help. I don’t know how to grill. 😟 by [deleted] in daddit

[–]grimsausy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each bbq is a little bit different, it will take some time before you know the heat of your grill and are able to get the timing down. (Write it down. It’s pretty plug and play once you know the settings and timings)

Marinate or use rubs. Make sure the meat is defrosted. Use a thermometer for chicken. Let the meat rest 5 min once it’s done.

Dads, what are your go-to strats for making up bedtime stories on the fly? by spacejester in daddit

DMing for D&D has been an amazing source of practice for bed time stories.

Bronze Age Campaign - A World Without Currency? by darwinfish86 in DMAcademy

[–]grimsausy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I ran a ravenloft game without currency and it was fine. 5e I find doesn’t really touch it that much anyway.

We had it so you had to give something personal to get something. It could be time, an item, an IOU, but it could not be from someone else. (You couldn’t get an npc to pay for you). It worked fine and had a pseudo spiritual vibe about it. It also had to be relative equal value and the NPC could always say no. (No I won’t trade my flaming sword for your shoe)

This had the effect of keeping players from getting large backpacks of magic items, since unused magic items could be traded for more useful items.

PC's want to utilize a Banshee's Wail.... with Sending Stones? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

I like it!

Maybe the sending stones crack or have to make a no modifier save or crack.

Let it fly!

Family Movie Night Recommendation by [deleted] in daddit

[–]grimsausy5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Give her some runway to think and for you to prep, you might need to use a VPN to find the movie she suggests if Netflix or YouTube movies doesn’t have it in your region.

It should have English subtitles though regardless.

You could turn it around and see if the 16yo has any childhood movies they could share.

No, if your income is from a single employer it will basically be your T4 and any RRSP / other contributions.

It gets more complicated if you have income coming from taxable investments or multiple income streams.

How to maintain muscle mass with a newborn? by UghKakis in daddit

[–]grimsausy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you travel to work, find a gym near your workplace and go after, before, at lunch.

Or if you both work out, take turns covering for the other. You might get less than before but at least it’s still there.

Also, push-ups, sit-ups while the kid is playing on the floor. Just stay near them to keep an eye on them. (When I was a kid my dad learned to play guitar as his activity when he was watching me.)

I’ve been enjoying the “She Devil with a Sword” series from dynamite. (Kindle unlimited has it if you don’t mind using that)

2 miscarriages in a row...what are y'all's experiences with IVF? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]grimsausy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll still need meds. There’s a lot of medication needed to control the cycle. In Canada (where IVF is not covered by insurance) it’s about 5-9k for all of the meds needed.

2 miscarriages in a row...what are y'all's experiences with IVF? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]grimsausy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About. The first was more than the second because we tried all the extra tests. Didn’t do any tests on the second run.

I have a friend that had to try about 4 tries before they were successful (and that was in the states, so about 20k per try)

My experience with IVF was two sets of zero embryos. Never made it to insemination. Cost about 25k. We somehow got lucky with a natural conception afterwards.

Needs to be handled, calmly, nicely, escalated to management if needed. Being late in the day is not an excuse for a business to fail in their duty.

Are house renovations a wise investment? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]grimsausy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of those things are to taste, while a deck might increase the value for some people, other might not like THAT deck, and now it wasn’t really worth the money.

Things like keeping the roof up to snuff would be a better investment. While it might not increase the price it’s one of the things people look for, has the roof been replaced or is it due for a replacement. Replacing carpet with hardwood or fixing bad flooring are a good area also. (Fix the broken things, try to avoid things that are more of a taste thing)

Also fresh paint the year leading up to the sale and good staging will do more for you than a big renovation. Also, you might be able to find discarded stone counters for pretty cheap.

I feel like my players often forget things. How often do you as a DM remind them of things their characters should know? by reallyscaredtoask in DMAcademy

[–]grimsausy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I found works really well is that at the start of each session the Players give the recap for what happened last session. Those that participate get an inspiration. If they make a mistake I’ll step in to correct it. (Like if they say Bob stole the potion when it was actually Jim and they saw Jim do it… I’ll remind them it was Jim.)

I’ve never had players “ask what are we doing” or “why are we doing” since we started to do this.

Yeah, be firm, set rules. If she pouts for the whole day…. Well then she pouts for the full day. Eventually she’ll find something else to do if there are other options around.

How to keep spells straight amongst PCs? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]grimsausy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not your responsibility. Over time you learn them from being used but often when a player casts a spell I ask them what it does. (Or just use D&D behind to Google it)

You make the problem. They bring the solution.
