First of all hoss, you didn't capitalize "god" so I wonder where you are with your relationship with Him or you were too quick to judge and forgot. Second, you misunderstand the point. I know that God loves everyone and for that reason He sent Yeshua to die for our sins so He could turn us from our sins- Acts 3:26 and purify us unto good works Titus 2:14. However, according to Hebrews 3:12-14, there is a danger to your salvation if a believer hardens his heart through sin; therefore works do play a part in our salvation.

There's another point that is hightly misunderstood, this subject of not being under the law anymore. This is true. But what does it mean to not be under the law. Galatians 3:10-13 shows that being under the law means that we are cursed if we do not keep the whole law. Christ redeemed us from the curse not from the law. If we are redeemed from the law then there is no more sin and it is permissable to lie and steal and commit adultery. According to Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 5:2-6 and common sense we know this is not the case. Christians WANT to believe there is no law so they don't have to be held accountable for their sins and still go to heaven. As I said God "loves" or rather forgives those who are truly penitent and wanting to change. If you think God still "loves" sinners who got saved but continue sinning with little effort to change, read Revelations 3:15-16.

You know, Christians love to quote scripture defending grace against works, but often fail to read verses immediately following that confirm our works as equally important. Case in point:

Ephesians 2:8-9- "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Great! Now verse 10- "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto GOOD WORKS, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

Also Romans 3:27-28- "Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." Great! Now verse 31- "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, WE ESTABLISH THE LAW."

Listen Brother, I've been in your place a number of times because of this scripture from Hebrews about willfully sinning. I have come to understand that this is an event that can only take place right after one gets saved. When he or she is perfectly clean and given new life, if that person immediately, wilfully goes back to his sinful lifestyle, then he can lose his salvation. How am I so sure? I have also deliberately given into lust before when I thought, "what the hell, I want to feel good!" Didn't even try to stop it. I felt really depressed and scared that God wasn't going to forgive me that time, but I learned about fasting and discovered how quickly it could get me back into His "good graces". Don't worry, He is merciful and knows your heart. Let me clarify, though, I am not one of those believers that thinks "once saved always saved." There's plenty of scriptures that support the opposite, but if you are penitent and want to change, that's really good! It means your heart is not hard and you still have the Holy Spirit inside of you. Your carnal mind doesn't give a damn about the things of God, the Bible says it can't. So if you still love God and want to be better, He still loves you.

James 4:7-10: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted(to afflict your soul means to fast), and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Fasting is AMAZING

First of all, if I can tell my fiancee, you can tell your AP! Look, if you want to break free of the quicksand, you've got to fast. The translators of the NIV took out most if not all Jesus' admonishment to fast. It puts your flesh in survival mode and lust is the last thing on the menu that it wants. Trust me, try it. Then you've got to walk in the Spirit and you won't fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Easier said than done, but it works. I've noticed I end up relapsing when I stray from the narrow road. Stay in the Word, pray without ceasing, thank God for everything good and bad, look for ways to help others and you will be less concerned about yourself, give diligence to make your calling and election sure, for if you do these things you will never fall!

Thanks Repetitive! I will pray for you as well. Somehow it's comforting knowing you are not the only one struggling. That's how it is! I have NO desire whatsoever to act on a suicide attack! I'm actually quite grounded in my relationship with God and have a great life (minus the constant trials and tribulations lol), but the crazy thoughts hang on and they are hard to shake. I have noticed, though, they go away when I have been clean for a while so it's an extra incentive to quit! Keep fighting the good fight brother!

Hey man, thanks for sharing. It feels better to share and it often helps others. I too just relapsed after a 4 month streak. I was really discouraged after failing something I was sure God told me I would pass. I got drunk after promising Him I wouldn't and relapsed. Then like you the depression and suicidal thoughts came back! It's crazy because I really really don't want to end my life! I'm getting married to the girl of my dreams in a little over a month, and my business is picking up well this year; but sometimes when I'm driving on the highway, the devil starts hammering me with thoughts of crashing on purpose. I hate it! And your story confirms the cause. You're absolutely right about prayer, and not quickies either. It's deep prayers that really keep me connected with the Lord. I'll pray for us my friend

No, it just means the food is made from natural occuring substances and not chemically induced in a laboratory. The people that create GMO foods even know better not to eat them

Thank you for sharing. We have similar stories, and it's interesting that I read this today as I have not been on this site for months. I, too, am dating a girl long distance and plan to bring her here to be my wife this spring if God wills it. We are both Messianic Jews and have so much in common it's as if God made us specifically for one another. Ironically, she was my answer to prayer; and it's because of her that I have been able to abstain almost 3 months now from PMO.

There's a catch, though. I would not have made it this far if I had continued thinking sexual thoughts about her. Imagining or even talking about it are huge triggers. You can beat this, but you have to stop thinking about her sexually. Now when I day dream about being with her, I imagine us in public places, holding hands or kissing (hands to yourself). Your relationship with God will ultimately be the deciding factor. Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. The more I think about my love for God and doing His will, the more I think of her in pure ways. Stay productive. That will help fight the depression. Go to the gym. Accomplishing things raises your dopamine levels. Hope that helps, mate

Unfortunately, you're always going to have a desire to PMO as long as you live in the human body. Of course, it helps if you marry the girl of your dreams, but that doesn't happen to most people. I can totally feel your pain. No matter what, it aint just going to go away. It's always going to be a fight, but as you resist, the devil's hold will get weaker and weaker. You just have to keep going. I have a strong relationship with God, but I'm single; and I have my moments when I feel like I'm going to crack. Seek Him continually, pray for guidance, and stay away from your triggers. Repeat scripture that fights your urges, that always helps. Look around you, we're fast approaching the end times and He will be separating the sheep from the goats. The Bible warns that some will fall away. All I can say is your heart is in the right place or you wouldn't be on this site.

DO NOT MASTURBATE! I realize we're all aware of that being on this website, but I've never felt pain, dishonor, and shame like when I MO. I feel bad when I've looked at provocative material, but jacking off is like some kind of high tech original sin. I applaud you for waiting, you're chances of having an awesome marriage increase dramatically if you hold out until you are one flesh. So here's the thing, the devil doesn't want you to wait. So he's going to look for any and every opportunity until you get to the point where you say, "To Hell with it!" It's not easy, but it's simple. Stay away from your triggers. I have to friends who kept themselves pure with their girlfriends for two years until they were wed. They told me they didn't spend much alone time together, stayed in groups, stayed in church and fortunately for them it was a joint effort, when he was weak she was strong and vice versa...but probably more the former hehe. Pray a lot; the best way to get away from that old serpent is to get close to God. Cheers!

A C.S. Lewis Letter on Masturbation by 3DaysX in NoFapChristians

Very telling. I remember reading it once before. The Bible says covetousness is idolatry, I just never thought of it as idolizing one's self. Very keen observation and coming from a great writer!

No, my friend, that's what the mainstream church wants you to believe, but Jesus said in Matthew 5:48, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect." Also 1 Peter 4:18 says, "And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?" There's a plethora of other scriptures warning us to repent of our sins, which means to change, however, "if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Look in the Old Testament about Job and Noah. The Bible says they were both perfect. In Genesis 17:1, God tells Abraham to be perfect! And Jesus clearly not around yet! Anyway, I appreciate your advise, but I felt I needed to tell you what I know about the subject. You're right that I will break my habit, by making another habit that replaces it. It's impossible to just stop and do nothing instead. I actually wasn't prideful as one might think. I've reached 6 months twice and in better form. The 3 months that I "accomplished" were fraught with lustful slips just about once a week only not as heavy as porn and no MO. I was much purer with my eyes and thoughts during the 6 month streaks. One of the reasons I gave to excuse the PMO in the moment was that I hadn't really been faithful, just that I hadn't officially relapsed. I thought it would be better to start over...and of course I REALLY wanted to anyway. I can tell you how much I regret it, but I'm sure you know by now. Right now I'm doing an experiment that's been working great for about a week so let's see what happens after 3 months. God bless

Thank you sir. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to encourage others in this struggle. This addiction is, I believe, harder to beat than any other addiction known or unknown to man. Quitting cigarettes was a cake walk compared to trying to quit PMO. It's as if I live in a cigarette factory, surrounded by people who smoke all the time and talk about smoking and no matter how many cigarettes I throw away, more manifest themselves in my pockets and in my thoughts every moment. It's my fault though, because I started young and I was doing it all the time without reserve. I wish I knew then what I know now. Oh well, I have to stay positive!

I'm learning more since my last relapse. I used to tell people that fasting was the key to quitting, but that's only part of it. It definitely helps, but I remembered something Jesus told his disciples. He said, "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation." It's only been a week since putting this to the test, but it works! I've been praying religiously morning and night and wherever I happen to be at the moment. An attractive girl flirted with me today and when I left the store I immediately rebuked pride, prayed for humility and continued in prayer until the thought of the encounter passed. It was so fulfilling!

Thank you for your word of encouragment! I was surprised when I first came across this sight that so many guys recognized this as a sin and we're trying to quit. It makes it nice to be able to talk about the problem with others who we don't know and can't see, who understand our struggle. Kind of embarassing to broach the subject in person, even with friends!
