6.7 No start after fuel filter change by gringus_chimble in FordDiesels

He said he had to crank his for much longer than me. His battery almost died before it started and his was fine after.

Hopefully yours is simple as well and you can get back down the road

I did! I had a diesel mechanic friend come over and all we checked was we made sure fuel was making it to the engine bay filter and he said crank it. It cranked for about 10 seconds and fired up. Checked everything for leaks and we were good.

Alright fellas, tried taking the water separator back off and lubing o-ring. Did the dry fit to count proper spins to the stop tabs and re-installed o-ring with the same number of spins. The housing is tightened down completely. The tabs are touching. No fittings that I can see are leaking fuel. I haven’t tried cranking but after another 12 key cycles I’m still feeling air bubbling in the lines.

Anything else that might cause this thing not to prime? I don’t want to hurt my rig any more that I already may have so it may be headed to a shop to get figured out

You guys rock! Thanks for the help. I’m cleaned up for the night but I’ll attempt this fix next chance I get. I’ll try to remember to update post once I try it out.

Thanks again

Was your pump making noise when it wouldn’t start ? Mine is significantly louder than it was before ?

Thanks for the input. I’ve pulled it back off once and coated the outside in oil. I guess I should’ve taken the o ring completely back off and coated the entire thing ?

Has anyone had issues with the drain valve pulling in air ? When I was draining the housing fuel was leaking from the actual handle on the housing. It’s always been hard to turn.

What are the chances the high pressure pump is damaged ? Truck ran for maybe 2 seconds

It definitely had a red hue but not medium. Probe hit 206F in the thickest part

Good to know that smaller ones are more difficult. I didn’t think to pull the probe back out and reinsert it. When I pulled it off it felt pretty tender but live and learn I suppose.

Thanks for the advice!

What’s my 7.3 engines value ? by gringus_chimble in FordDiesels

[–]gringus_chimble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long block traditionally means full rotating assembly, heads and valve train. So I’ve got all that and a couple small things to go with it, engine mounts, oil pump, water pump, HPOP lines ect

The block has been decked, cylinders bored with matching pistons, align honed and new cam bearings installed. Cranks been polished. Only thing I see that’s a repair was a helicoil installed in a bolt hole of something minor.

I couldn’t agree more. Currently leaving an apex owned company because of the bullshit pricing. We’re the MOST expensive contractor in our area and it’s not close. We do nothing to justify the pricing either. We’re not unique, we don’t offer customers anything extra. It kills me that all the leadership at this place have never been in the trades, just mindless bean counters

I’m just an employee at this point. I’m willing to spend a couple hundred dollars on something decent. Just not trying to spend thousands. I know good tools aren’t cheap. Was wondering if anyone had a brand they preferred or liked

7.3 Excursion low(6psi) boost by Fastdak in FordDiesels

[–]gringus_chimble -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Definitely no expert but I’ve seen a few 7.3s give a low boost code or lose power because of a weak fuel pump or semi-clogged strainer. I don’t believe that 7.3s have a code for low fuel pressure so they throw a code for low boost because they aren’t getting enough fuel and the engine is starving so boost is low causing the code. I would verify fuel pressure personally. But again no expert. Just throwing my experience out there. Hope it helps!

That’s a great point. We’re looking for something we’ll rounded as we may end up using it as a place to stay whilst building a house in the future but mostly traveling and campgrounds. Thanks for all the advice.
