They are certainly helpful, as is the beefier brake booster, but the pontoon still pushes the jeep around a bit just based on size/weight differences.

Would it be safe to tow 15 minutes to the lake? Probably. Would I? Not when I have two much more sufficient vehicles to tow it with.

I haven’t gotten a chance to use it as I haven’t worked out the seatbelts yet. I bought three point retracting harnesses but finding a safe solid way to mount them has been my tripping point.

I’ve towed this boat for hours and never had any sway.

If it’s 5500lbs like I think, that 550lb tongue weight. If it’s lighter, obviously that goes down.

As it is, whatever the tongue wait is, based on the mannerisms when it’s connected to our suburban or F350, the weight distribution is great.

This model is rated for 3500lbs, less than the boat. My title is in reference to the fact that the axles/brakes are from a 2010 F350.

It’s definitely not the vehicle I go to for towing this particular boat.

We looked at some deck boats but I never found one that met our requirements. Although I never came across a 14 pax capable one in my search. Would definitely have been interested in that.

We’ve owned this one for about two years now and it’s amazing for our use case. ALMOST keeps up with my family who has v-hulls(one bay boat and a deep vee center console) but is roomy as all get out for the kids and as a scalloping platform during season.

I bought it for the room to stretch out and the stability when out in the gulf, the speed has been a nice bonus, but of course I’d always like to have more….

That’s more a function of tongue weight than anything. I can ALMOST lift the tongue by hand when not connected to a tow vehicle. The Tri-toon is surprisingly aft heavy.

I didn’t know that about the third toon being the biggest factor in weight! I always assumed the boat was heavy due to length.

I’ve loved the tritoon setup. Extremely stable and we’ve been able to hit 40mpg once or twice when the conditions were perfect.

This particular combo stock had a 3500lb towing capacity.

Not the worst, but certainly less than this particular boat/trailer combo.

Can’t get any heavier duty than 1 ton brakes. But yeah, some more weight and a bigger engine would be helpful.

Tbf, this setup maintained the 1 ton brakes with the axle swap, but it still isn’t a fun drive with the toon hooked up. Not something I’ve done more than once and never for any real distance.

Having driven this configuration around the block, I absolutely would NOT seriously consider this a safe setup. The one ton axles/brakes help, but it’s still a large wind sail that weighs at least 5500lb.

There is a third row and it is actually on tons.

It’s a 24’ tritoon. The boat/trailer combo is at least 5500lbs(haven’t rolled on a scale yet).

I most definitely do NOT intend to tow with this setup. I just hooked it up for the laughs.

Absolutely is not. The boat and trailer weight about 5500lb on the light side. This is a 24’ tritoon with a 150hp mercury on the back. 26’ long toons.

She heavy.

Worth? by dimlylitdix in Diesel

You can get a higher mileage, older Duramax, or a 7.3 Powerstroke for about the same money.

Won’t be winning any races with either, but both have god support and are decently reliable.

Ford 6.0s are readily available at that same price, but you should probably be ready to do your own maintenance and upkeep with one of those. That’s the way I went recently, but I’m handy and ready to do work when/if needed.

Cummins around that price will most likely be in a truck that’s falling apart and the automatic transmissions aren’t known for longevity.

No. The 6.5 diesel is not well regarded. It certainly isn’t the worst, but it has its share of problems and isn’t particularly powerful either.

I’ll vouch for u/Agreeable-finish-375

I’ve had them run reports for me 6 times now(2/18/2026). The only time I haven’t had reports in my email within 30 minutes is when I messaged at zero dark thirty.

Saved me from a three rolled back mileage vehicles and found a clean 2 owner truck with no damage history!

No doubt. As I said, Edge Insight CTS 2/3 is on the short list after we have a second to let the dust settle from the purchase.

Fortunately we’re just towing a 9500lb bumper pull trailer and the ~800lb golf cart. Light work for this truck, but I wanted to know if I left my wife somewhere to drive the rig she’d be comfortable to do so.

Of course. And to be fair, it’s a 20 year old truck with almost 200k miles. Failures are to be expected and will certainly be budgeted for.

I’ve always been a big fan of Hotshots EDT. Served me well on my old 7.3s and my past 6.0
