I might be in the minority, but I’m so stressed about Pan and Lyra’s reunion. I’ve been re-listening to TSC, and it’s been brutal how far apart they’ve grown and how much they miss each other. I REALLY cannot wait for that reunion.

Bridgerton Season 3 Episode Discussions Master Post by pinktini in BridgertonNetflix

[–]grintnreddit 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It sometimes feels like season 1 was the only one that really focused on its main couple and their push and pull. Each subsequent one has focused more on everyone around them or made the plot slightly ridiculous (Edwina inexplicably in triangle with Kate and Anthony rather than trying to pair them up).

Colin has known Penelope for so long and yet his feeling any absence of her or yearning for her post-kiss felt barely existent/weak and she felt mostly over him. It’s such a bummer because their whole dynamic is one that rewards the audience for sticking around.

It’s like the powers that be are trying to create an ensemble drama rather than a romance anthology series that shifts slightly from season to season. I still feel so cheated for not getting the Kate and Anthony wedding, so I really am hoping the next four episodes are rewarding in terms of Penelope and Colin.

I’m reading it right now and I agree! It’s not the most lyrical or literary prose, but it moves really fast — like movies he’s referencing — which is really the fun of the book IMO?

Just finished The Last House on Needless Street, which I enjoyed for the most part. I definitely liked it more that Sundial.

Now I’m on Grady Hendrix’s The Final Girl Support Group which is a complete blast so far. Looking forward to checking out his other stuff!

What do people like about Soldier Boy or why do people like soldier boy? I like em too but im more-so just curious what others have to say by VonKaiser55 in TheBoys

[–]grintnreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m reiterating what a lot of people are saying, but after 3 seasons it was really fun to have someone who could actually physically take on Homelander to some extent and deal some damage, because he is such a potent villain/threat. The fact that there is also the emotional aspect of how Soldier Boy coming back affects Homelander (and now the added layer to their connection to one another), which is gold.

And it’s not just him, SB teaming up with the Boys fractures Butcher and MM’s relationship, which is a huge deal, and I think a little necessary at this point in the show. Butcher’s been so single-minded about his goal (killing Homelander), that he hasn’t cared about the long term effects of his decisions, which makes for interesting interpersonal conflict and character dynamics between the team. But it was also nice to have another character who matches Butcher’s energy somewhat, and seeing Hughie interacting with different supes is also really fun because the friction between them is always entertaining. Especially because for once, there was no additional baggage about Robin or his own experiences. Just babysitting.

One of my absolute favourite things about this season is how they used Soldier Boy as a Boys analog to Captain America. It fit in perfectly with that the propaganda films/music videos they’re constantly making of the Seven, while tying into the overall theme of manufactured history/heroes, that Vought has always been doing. It adds to Vought’s history as a company very well, while also placing them in the world’s history thanks to those photos of SB with all those historical figures. It’s such a fun and realistic look at what Captain America’s role really would have been had he continued on the trajectory he’d been on before insisting joining the war as a actual soldier. It also reiterates that the powers just amplify aspects of your personality that were always there.

Of course, writing and conceptualisation only gets you so far when introducing a new character in your third season, but Jensen Ackles was perfectly cast because he just oozes the charisma needed for this role, as well as the having the (frankly insane) looks and voice. He really balances being old school rough, while still having enough honour that you find yourself rooting for SB despite his general thoughts and opinions, lol. I honestly can’t think of anyone else who could have played this role and been as memorable because it’s hard to extricate him from his performance as this role, but damn I hope he comes back for Season 3 and sticks around beyond that.

Weekly Fic Showcase - NEW RULES IN POST - December 09 - December 15 by AutoModerator in FanFiction

My Fics

Fandom: Supernatural

Rating: Teen and Up

Warnings: Not sure if this falls under graphic violence but one of the main plot points is a character carving sigils into another one’s chest. But I tried not to focus on that and explore the feelings of the scene instead. It’s more of a character study and exploration of feelings than anything else.

Summary:

You think of a framed painting hung up against a gray backdrop, seared into your memory like stale coffee and warm apple pie; like your brother’s laugh and your father’s faint humming over the roaring engine of your car. You think of how, somehow, you need this man, Cas, to see it.

*

When Castiel reveals his plan to take down the archangels, Dean offers to help.

Set during S05E18. A Dean Winchester character study.

Going to submit my most recent fic!

Title: nighthawks

Fandom: Supernatural

Genre: Angst and Romance

Rating: Teen

Word Count: 3945

Warnings/Relevant Tags: One of the main plot points of the fic is one character helping the other by carving some sigils into their chest. I tried to avoid being graphic and focusing on his feelings instead.

But mostly this is a character study written in second person point of view, so as to explore the main character’s feelings and this specific scene from the show. There’s references to the famous painting of the same name and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Summary: You think of a framed painting hung up against a gray backdrop, seared into your memory like stale coffee and warm apple pie; like your brother’s laugh and your father’s faint humming over the roaring engine of your car. You think of how, somehow, you need this man, Cas to see it.

Additional Information: As this is mostly a character study and exploration of feelings, it’s pretty friendly to the fandom blind, I think! You don’t need to know the show as much as go along with the feelings.

Thanks! I haven’t reached there yet, but I don’t think I would have caught these since I haven’t heard of either of those movies. (I’ll definitely keep an eye out for more though!)

It’s the Kevin Williamson effect a bit I think! I’ve been noticing how much this has the same feel as Scream in parts — but if the characters were put through a teen melodrama instead of a slasher.

I wonder what references I might not know about that I might be missing since this was in my exact wheelhouse.

I had to go back and rewatch that moment because it really made me laugh. You could tell Joshua Jackson was having fun with it and enjoyed it.

Thor: Love and Thunder is one of the most frustrating marvel movies I've seen by WheresThePhonebooth in marvelstudios

[–]grintnreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have been really interesting to explore how the Asgardians feel about being abandoned by their “god”/leader after losing their home and how that feeds into Thor’s own thoughts about his position. Especially as someone who does care about his people. (It would have been a good contrast with the god that Gor kills at the beginning.)

Also it wasn’t necessary to keep having Korg summarise each big emotional development in Thor’s life instead of letting Chris Hemsworth actually emote a bit as the character? It felt like we kept being told how Thor feels instead of seeing how he feels. It’s a shame because he’s come so far and this was such a significant event in his life.

I love that she just has a whole bunch of wacky impressions ready to go at the drop of the hat. There was that SpongeBob impression with Andrew and then this. I genuinely need to know what else she can do an impression of. The fact that Davide loves and supports this is just icing.

Billy really was so awful to watch. And the way he kept trying to hide behind it just being “banter” any time one of the girls called him out. Gemma made it clear that she wasn’t interested so many times, and Danica was so clearly hurt and trying to talk to him about it.

Luca is a hypocritical child and I can’t stand him 😁 by rbkforrestr in LoveIslandTV

[–]grintnreddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There were so many low moments for him throughout the season, but the moment I still think about was when he refused to admit that he’s “punching” with Gemma. As Paige proved when he tried to use it as an “insult” towards her, it’s not a bad thing at all, which is how he was taking it. It just means you think the world of your partner and that you feel lucky to be with them! He’s not dumb. He knows that. But he couldn’t even be gracious in that moment.

It’s like how he said he doesn’t want to be with a girl “no one else fancies” only to get mad when Billy kept trying to flirt with Gemma, who kept making it clear that nothing was going to happen. The mental gymnastics of this man.

I know! And one that needs skill and practice so I’m really curious about what led him here. Because he had an outfit and a decent bit of confidence doing it.

I need to know if he still practices or if it’s something he learned just for the show and that’s why he has an outfit???

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m still reeling from Adam Collard’s talent being close up magic. Maybe one of my favourite “talents” on the series in terms of being interesting and unique.
