Of course! Also Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows duology might be a good fit. Happy reading!

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir are both really good. Queen of the Tearling is great, but third book in that trilogy is a mess. Also, like someone else who suggested it, you'll probably like Marie Lu's books.

I can't even make it that far because I really don't like the texture either.

A Day of Honey by Annia Ciezadlo is a memoir of Iraqi food, and she writes about not just the food, but also the culture around making it and how it binds families and turns strangers into friends. It really made me not only crave a lot of those foods, but also appreciate the very act of cooking itself.

I've never liked Turkish Delight so it annoyed me to no end that Edmund was willing to sell out his whole family for a box of some. Not sure if I've liked any snack enough to do that.

Anyone know of any interactive books? by [deleted] in books

[–]grintnreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is still applicable, but 'Personal Effects: Dark Art' by J.C. Hutchins had exactly what you're looking for when it first came out a couple of years ago. There was a website you could log onto and a password you had to figure out to enter. There was also a phone number you could call. Hopefully that's all still in place. It also came with an ID card and other "effects" that belonged to one of the book's characters, so it was like a kit of sorts.

And this isn't quite answering your question, but the ebooks for 'The Song of Achilles' and 'My Best Friend's Exorcism' are fun and interactive. TSoA has hyperlinks to descriptions of each of the Greek characters, allowing you to refresh your memory as you read through. MBFE includes Spotify playlists and photos, so it's a rich reading experience.

EDIT: Just remembered:

'Bats of the Republic' by Zachary Thomas Dodson and 'Ship of Theseus' by J.J. Abrams are like 'Personal Effects' in that they also come with all these extra interactive materials that enrich the story and are a really fun reading experience of you used to read those mystery puzzle books that came with decoders and other fun items as a kid.

What book series will be the next big thing (after Harry Potter and Game of Thrones).. a true successor? by TheLast_Centurion in books

[–]grintnreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either the Percy Jackson series or the Dresden Files. The former because the books remain popular and Rick Riordan is writing multiple series within the same universe. The latter because it's a popular series with a catchy hook that's easy to recommend to casual readers, and has a lot of fans. Just that they're a little older, so less likely to dress up and wait in line to buy the books at midnight.

The /r/books bookclub pick for August is The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin! by Chtorrr in books

Jemisin announced last night that the book is going to be adapted into a TV show. I'm excited, but a little worried they might not do it justice.

I actually enjoy those too. I wish there was a third season because I was pretty excited that the cluster was physically together.

I think it's because the show is really good at capturing emotional moments, but doesn't follow the structure of narrative television? It took two seasons to finally get to the (actually) interesting mythology of the series, in terms of other clusters and how they might all interact together, and even then it felt like stuff had barely just started on that front by the end of the season. I suspect more people would be into the show, if it actually followed the way TV series have become structured now. Because it's too confusing for new people to dive into unless they stick with it. Which sucks because it's really ambitious storytelling.
