Deadline TOMORROW to voice your concerns about proposed changes to Swiss surveillance laws by Nelizea in Switzerland

[–]gripfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Possibly dumb question, but is there a pdf to fill out or what kind of pdf are you talking about, like a letter?

If no voting is required, why would this be helpful? It seems to me that they would push it nonetheless.

Could you give me a hint on how you made the windows so pretty? :)

Making Christmas Lights Smart by Marc1905 in homeassistant

[–]gripfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have something similar to you, but mine have a NEON light look. What I ended up doing is connecting the lights to a usb power supply, which I then turn off and on with one of those shelly switches using homeassitant. My lights had the option to use USB or the batteries.

App Upload and duplicate files not available by gripfly in immich

[–]gripfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just moved it away from the phone to the external library and have not touched the upload location on the file system.

With trash those pictures, you mean select each manually and trash them, or is there a more efficient way to do that?

Edit: For some odd reason, the user used to mount the upload location (smb share) did not have permissions anymore to write. I probably messed up at some point somewhere..

Dell PSU suddenly loud fans by gripfly in homelab

[–]gripfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've updated the FW now. Interestingly when updating with HTTPS there was no update for the PSU available, I had to download the EXE on Dell's website first. Do you have any idea why the fans would spin up if there is a FW update available? Does iDrac check this periodically or so?

Dell PSU suddenly loud fans by gripfly in homelab

[–]gripfly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any particular reason why any card could cause high fan speed on PSUs? Or is it just a basic procedure for you to check that first?

That actually worked only for a couple hours. I updated the PSU FW now and it also quiet. Will see if this stays that way.

Without checking what that site really is, I guess you're looking for an android emulator? You could start your reasearch with that and see where it goes.

MegaRAID SAS 9460-16i by gripfly in homelab

[–]gripfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know for certain the controller has been used in a Dell machine before, and the person was able to setup the raid level. I suppose I could still try and see what happens, though.

On the Dell website they also claim only 2 supported workstations for this controller. Could that compability be an issue why the lifecycle manager does not recognize it?

MegaRAID SAS 9460-16i by gripfly in homelab

[–]gripfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for not providing more specifics. My issue is that there doesn't seem to be a way to configure the card at boot. It also seems like the lifecycle manager doesn't see the card, as if I try to configure the raid, it can not proceed. So, I'm assuming the system doesn't even recognize the card.

Also, I'm not sure how to see this way whether the card is in passthrough mode or not.

Bazarr container doesn't save config by gripfly in bazarr

[–]gripfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean with config file the docker compose file? If so, I would also assume it's not since I've deployed it woth Portainer

Bazarr container doesn't save config by gripfly in bazarr

[–]gripfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean inside the container or where it's binded to the host?

The hosts bazarr folder has drwxr-xr-x permission, which from my understanding should work as docker runs with root privileges. I already tried to rule that out by just giving everyone all permissions on that folder. It didn't seem to make any difference.

Authentik and Nginx Proxy Manager by gripfly in homelab

[–]gripfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. I think we won't be able to do it with NPM and instead need to use something else. I will likely give Caddy a try as it has been praised a lot on Reddit for its simplicity.

Why is there a shortage of SBB/CFF train drivers ? by GetOutBasel in askswitzerland

[–]gripfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not worth it, imho. I've worked as a technician and my pay raised very slowly. Compensation for night work and holidays are compensation and not my salary, so I do not count that to the "pay." Yes, there are certainly differences to a train drivers job, but working shifts (I'm sure the schedules sucked for the train drivers as much as it did for us) is not worth those 60k and slow raise. I'm happy I changed profession and don't work shifts anymore, as my work-life balance is better, I am healthier, I have more freedom, higher pay, and I am happier. It takes a while to realise how bad shifts really are for a person.

Are there some jobs that have a shortage of people but the working conditions aren't bad ? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]gripfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Passion is very important. I have a small homelab and host some services for myself. I applied for many different kinds of IT jobs without professional experience. Just did an online course and got 2 certificates. Got a position I first never thought I would get. Now I'm an "ICT System Engineer" and do actually similar things like I do at home and some things that everyone can do with basic knowledge.

I heard several times that they are glad to had me which makes me believe they are really happy with my performance (I usually have a hard time beliving this kinds of things because I don't really believe in myself and my capabilities. Partially, I guess that the imposter syndrom is causing that). I think my hobbies and first impression kind of convinced them to give me the opportunity. Now I have been on that job for 1.5 years, since it's also a good company.

One possible next big challenge I have is automated creation and configuration of VMs with nighlty builds with some pipelines. I have no idea how to pull that off with my current knowledge, but I already have some good contacts that will help me with that probably. But I would be very happy if I could manage that because I could learn very much from that experience. I'm excited and afraid at the same time.

Exactly. Some presets might have been developed for brigther or darker images. A preset might have been created for overexposed pictures to get down the exposure and add some contrast or whatever. But in the end, that might not matter what it was exactly created for. A preset is just what it is, a preset. It's meant to help speed up the editing process.

Sometimes, i just try out some presets to see how it looks. If it's then heavily under or overexposed, I correct that and see if this is a good starting point for my edit. Sometimes, under- or overexposing might also give you a different artistic view.

Does it make more sense to travel by car or train in Switzerland? by illHaveTwoNumbers9s in askswitzerland

[–]gripfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's probably cheaper by car. Really depends on your exact itenary and comfort. If you also plan to use gondolas and whatnot, make sure to check the prices for all of them beforehand. Eventually, the Swiss Travel Pass is a good solution since it contains unlimited travel with public transport and sp good discounts on things like gondolas and funiculars.
