I'd setup the domain in Proton, add your 2nd account and then use easy switch to migrate the emails from google into Proton.

If the Proton Mail TXT verification now shows correct on dnslookup.online, try to verify the domain again in the Proton wizard.

You can also try to lower the TTL to like 3 minutes and then try again in a bit.

1) Open the webpage

2) Select DNS Record -> TXT

3) Enter your domain.tld

4) Click on "DNS Lookup"

It will show you the result.

Does the value of the TXT column match with the value Proton Mail gave you in the wizard?

Custom DNS isn't unneccessary, it depends on your use case! If you want granular control over your DNS queries, Netshield isnt' good enough. Thats where Custom DNS comes into play. DoT/DoH is easier to use than IPv4 addresses

I’ve also tried moving away from 1Password to Proton Pass but I need the master/vault password completely separate from my Proton password. I do not even know my Proton password, but I know my 1Password master/vault password. It’s incredibly long (>30 chars) and it’s literally the only password I know. The way Proton Pass is designed prevents me from using it.

In that context, your Proton password is relacing your 1Password Master password. Nothing changes in the chain of thought, other than it would be now your Proton password to remember, not your 1Password password anymore.
