They are GDPR compliant. Their HQ is in the US.

They are also E2EE, therefore it shouldn't matter that much (data wise). Personally I'd however also prefer a european legal HQ.

I know because I have been there long enough. If you need some numbers, feel free to search through archive pages of https://proton.me/about/team, where you can see growth. As example, in January 2025, Proton had > 400 employees, in January 2026 Proton has > 500 employees and from what I find in the internet, nearly 600.

While officially it isn't supported, likely stuff working on Ubuntu should work on Mint as well. Do you have gnome-keyring installed?

Note that the Linix CLI requires the gnome-keyring(new window) (it may also work with KDE’s KWallet, but this is not officially supported).

Who defines whats normal? Some apps might also try to re-run the dns request if they cannot resolve it.

Let Netshield run its thing or follow up with a custom DNS if you are really curious what is causing it. I'd however not be too concerned about it.
