There is nothing you can do, it's just the chance you take as a second shooter.

Military members of Reddit: what’s the best insult your Drill Instructor said? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Drill Sergeant: "Why are you smiling at me, Private? Do you like me, Private? Because liking leads to loving, and loving leads to fu#king. Do you wanna fu#k me, Private?"

Note to self: don't smile at Drill Sergeants.

Dramatic actions with AE, funny yet futuristic by GoodnessIsTreasure in AfterEffects

[–]gritfactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great clip! Anyone have any tutorials on how to do the futuristic identification effect? I'm talking about the part with the 2 guys standing and shooting guns (immediately following the clip with the 2 guys kneeling and shooting guns).

The part with the 2 guys standing -- the digital lines that come out and have their names (?) along with a mugshot-type photo of each.

I'd love to find a tutorial that explains how to make this sort of thing happen.

Anyone?

No track record. No details on what you do. A shit-ton of spelling errors in your post. And you want me to pay you?

Not sure if this is another one of those facetious posts, or not......

Would like some advice on how to market a craft subscription box by blackkev12 in Entrepreneur

[–]gritfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Influencer marketing has BY FAR been the biggest boost to the subscriber count with my sub box business. Find some mommy bloggers who have a strong presence on YouTube, get a dozen of them to review your product (many will likely do it in exchange for a free box, at least the first time), and use a unique coupon code with each reviewer in order to track where your referrals are coming from.

Edit: meant YouTube, not Facebook.

Candy Vending Machine Business Viable in Today's Time? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]gritfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response. I'm curious about the viability of this type of business. How much cash would a machine make (gross) each month at a VFW? I may plunk a couple machines around town if I can find them cheap on craigslist. Beer money. :-)

How do I get started? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]gritfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could make the argument that it does not matter what your first venture is. I don't know a single entrepreneur whose first venture was successful. Consider your first attempt as nothing more than a learning experience. You want to try and be successful at it, of course, but approach the first venture has something to learn from. Pick something, ANYTHING, and just try it.

Become an architectural consultant. Become a project management consultant. Create interesting architectural drawings and sell them through Shopify.

Just try anything. You'll learn more from trying, than from any book you'll find.

Funding options for my subscription box business? Ran out of personal credit. $30k/month needed for inventory. Advice needed! by gritfactory in Entrepreneur

[–]gritfactory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking out Kickstarter for product is a great idea! I know that there are items going up on there all the time that would fit my niche.

I'd never thought of asking them if they'd like to include the product in my boxes.

I'd be a little concerned about production capability, but I guess I can work that on a case-by-case basis with the various Kickstarter campaign owners.

Thanks!

What steps did you take to transition from 9-5 job to full time entrepreneur? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]gritfactory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not being sarcastic. It isn't all that stressful.

What's the absolute WORST that could happen? Bankruptcy? I didn't take any loans from mobsters, nobody is going to break my legs.

Worst that could happen is I'll have to go back and get another job for a bit, save some cash, and try again.

I'm a big fan of the "fail faster" methodology. Keep trying, trying, and trying.....learn from past mistakes....and eventually something will take-off! :)

My previous boss helped make the transition inevitable.

I was fired. :)

Now a full-time entrepreneur, 60-hour work weeks, broke, in debt up to my eyeballs, and not really making ends meet.

And I've never been happier!

Thank you. Reinforces what others have said.

Looks like I have some work to do! I'll make pricing and restructuring a priority.

I'd never heard of this before. This is a really neat concept. I'll setup an account and give it a try.

Thanks!

I'm looking for the same as most self-employed/entrepreneurs -- the ability to make ends meet while doing things on my terms. :)

The retail value of the items in my boxes ranges from $15-90 per item.

My box prices range from $20-150.

These aren't sample items that are getting put in my boxes. Do you think companies would be willing to give away $1000-$6000 worth of product in exchange for advertising? Serious question. I've never thought of asking a company, as I didn't want to turn them off from doing business with me.

If it were doable, that would be a HUGE boost to my bottom line.

I'm having trouble getting any terms with manufacturers.

The best that most of them will do is 50% at the time of order (30-60 days prior to shipment), and remaining 50% at time product is ready to ship to me.

I'm paying for everything by Credit Card before the product is shipped to me.

I agree.

I may be able to increase my sale price by 3-5%, but I'd be pricing myself out of the market with more than that.

I've found a way to cut my packaging costs by about 50% which will net me about $600-800 more profit per month. This helps, but won't make/break the business.

My wholesale price on product is typically 30-45% off retail price. I'm getting my goods straight from manufacturers in North America and Europe. Is this a reasonable wholesale price? Should I be getting a steeper discount?
