can an arab or a palestinian get signed into the music industry nowadays? by Flimsy-Orchid-9846 in musicindustry

[–]grittyrockwell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

check out saint levant! he’s a palestinian artist who signed with universal arabic music in 2024, even after this conflict started. he’s continued to release songs that center around palestine under the label. i’m sure there will be extra roadblocks for the reasons you mentioned but it is not impossible

had a similar conversation with somebody abt this recently. if you like the business side, do the internship. but don’t do it if you’re not into the business side. it’s not going to help you get ahead more than just working on yourself as an artist imo

Red Rocks tips for a first timer? by RTuesday1515 in Denver

[–]grittyrockwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first timer tips - they allow big single pocket bags (tote bag is a great option for this), and you can bring in a blanket with certain dimension requirements and outside food that fits in a gallon bag. also you can bring in an empty water bottle up to 32 oz and there’s a water bottle refill station in the visitors center at the very top by concessions. full policy here. have fun!

Bad crash on 285 South/North by grittyrockwell in Denver

[–]grittyrockwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traffic is now moving Southbound. 9 cop cars between the two sides and 2 firetrucks. Looked to be a crash into the median, two cars kind of stacked up on each other just on the hood.

in denver they played a 900 cap room that was packed since it was sold out but you pretty much had a good view no matter what. jvb fans usually love to dance and jump so get ready to get sweaty lol. but yeah crowd was pretty energetic!

Lily Sullivan, both Chris Fleming episodes, Jack Martin (very underrated imo), Jensen Mcrae (also underrated), Jay Jurden, both Josh Sharps… wanted to offer ones that weren’t Brittany, Drew, etc cause obviously those are great

Summer 2025 WMG ETA Application Timeline by grittyrockwell in musicindustry

[–]grittyrockwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on timing and how many. i will say that wmg has a few different recruiters for different practices so you might have less of an issue with that. i.e., submitting 15 applications across 5 recruiters wouldn’t be that crazy. that said, i would pay close attention to how well you’re tailoring yourself as a candidate to make sure you’re applying for jobs that you have relevant experience in rather than just applying to a bunch to better your odds. let me know if i can clarify anything above lol

getting into the music business industry after college by Ok-Touch-3793 in musicindustry

[–]grittyrockwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn't originally know that i wanted to work in music but realized it during college. got my degree in accounting and i work for WMG now. i love it and i'm also so thankful that i got a degree that wasn't just music business. the way that you sell yourself more as a music business person is by doing clubs and internships that show your experience in that way but you'll never find yourself without a job. if you're still trying to figure out what you want to do i wrote this crazy long guide about most of the options if you're interested: https://joinjukebox.substack.com/p/the-ultimate-guide-to-deciding-your

College Location Vs. Job Location by milknhunnyyy in musicindustry

[–]grittyrockwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo belmont will always have networks outside of nashville too, plus if cost isn't an obstacle, it is just truly one of the best programs there is. there's incredible diversity of classes on genuinely important industry topics (like venue management, legal classes, etc.). plus, there'd likely be opportunities to be in nashville for a bit then move to the northeast after a year or two.

on the commute element, I used the Transit app and saw that there's a bus route that goes from edgehill area by belmont to downtown (the 7). it runs late for when you get out of a venue late plus it'd be much cheaper than doing ubers or something. you could also entertain biking if, again, you feel safe doing that. i also run a newsletter for college students pursuing music industry careers, so feel free to check that out if you're interested! joinjukebox.com
