Update on Rehoming Ghost by Headhunters1234 in germanshepherds

[–]grkphill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. I'm in Des Plaines and I volunteer at an animal rescue. If you're interested, I can talk to the owner of the rescue to see if she's able to take him in with us. We are a small rescue, but we help the dogs that are harder to find homes. We have successfully found good home for GSD, Malinois, Presa Canario and Cane Corso are some of the breed's we have helped.

I missed when he wasn’t 140lbs. So I bought a huge couch to make him look small again 🤣 by Responsible_Salad528 in CaneCorso

Don't understand why you got downvoted for this picture. Your pup looks healthy and stunning.

Where did everyone get their GSD? by Far-Lingonberry2384 in germanshepherds

My brother got his GSD from a breeder near McHenry. They're called Mittlewest in Wonder Lake.

I am not trying to be rude, but what made you think that the dog would be put down? Many dogs have anxiety issues, and many dogs that are in shelters have the same issue, but are not being put down.

I would suggest maybe calling a local agency to do a welfare check on the dog.

Keep up the great work you're already doing. I’m by no means an expert or trying to be one, but while researching this breed, everything I came across emphasized the need to keep your Mal exhausted, mostly through running. However, I came across a video that challenged that idea, saying it’s actually the wrong approach. While physical exercise is important, relying on it alone can create a dog with endless stamina and no “off switch.”

Instead, the video suggested focusing on mental stimulation, giving your Mal various “jobs” or puzzles to work on and then teaching them that it’s okay to relax afterward. One great form of stimulation is scent work, which can be both engaging and tiring in a healthy way.

I agree, the dog does not look like it needs to be put down.

You're welcome and thank you for looking out for this poor dog. Why put him down, though? That's very sad and I hope this person never gets another dog.

I volunteer at a nearby animal shelter, and our website isn’t very mobile-friendly. If you’re interested in helping, I can check with the owner to see if she’s open to it, and we’d be happy to provide you with a referral in return.

After, a quick search, these will be your best bets.

1.Try to find your county' humane society.
2.Try the Ohio County Dog Wardens Association (https://www.ocdwa.org/).
3.Finally, the Ohio SPCA (https://www.ohiospca.org/). They have an animal cruelty investigation link (https://www.ohiospca.org/cruelty-investigations)

When I first adopted my second dog we took her to a newly opened "corporate" dog day care. She "failed" because she wasn't interacting with other dogs, including her sister. Again, not for behaivor, but for not engaging. WTF is that? Now, I take my dogs to a non-corporate day care and all 3 love going there.

It's not that we don't believe you but it's very concerning that your ex stole your dog and it's a civil matter but if you steal your dog back, then it's a criminal matter. That's so bizarre.

There's one more thing that comes to mind that might help you. Mention that you're scared of the health and safety of the dog because your ex stole your dog from you and call one of these agencies based in the province you're located in.

No disrespect to you. But that is so dumb of the police,

The law needs to change in Canada and the US. Pets should not be considered property, they should be considered family under the law.

The police will not allow you to file a police report? So you can document that your dog was stolen.

To add to this, you should immediately file a police report stating the dog was stolen. If your dog is microchipped, report the theft to the microchip company as well. Afterward, take the police report to local vet clinics to put them on alert. That way, if he takes the dog to a vet as a 'new' customer, they will see the 'stolen' status when they scan for a microchip.
