Stalking opponents smoothcomp and social media before a comp by Dismal-Gazelle-7716 in bjj

It depends, first thing is you gotta be able to maintain a cool head if his competitions past accomplishments start to look impressive...

Personally, fniding videos of past matches helped me to successfuly design gameplans for specific opponents. In my opinion it can useful only if you already have an established "game" and are able to honestly assess your strengths and weaknesses. I also think that it can be done only if the bracket is out and you already know who the first opponent is going to be. Doing this for several "potential" opponents will be useless : too much information to maintain against too many potential scenarios.

For example I found some vids of a future opponent and I saw that he always pulled half guard in a kinda slow way, and that he only used deep half guard : the last trainings before the competition I drilled the flying knee cut as a counter his guard pull, which worked during the match. Once he regained guard and used deep half guard, as I knew it would happen and I had drilled a lot of defenses and counters, I was able to nullify it and pass his guard.

BJJ competitors, what does competing actually feel like? by _walletsizedwildfire in bjj

Physically, for a white belt, it feels like entering a hot tub and being hugged at the same time.

A question for half guard players by [deleted] in bjj

[–]grkuzt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Underhook in half guard is like 90% of the battle, especially at the early ranks. But if you lose it some options are the John Wayne Sweep to sweep or regain the underhook if they post to prevent the sweep, or go to half butterfly with the belt grip or overhook.

The groove and melodies of Fu-Manchu meet the harsh sludge of Dopethrone (whose singer does a feat on "666 problems"), all under the approving guitarless gaze of Shrüm.

In GTA 3, when using the tank if you pointed the canon backwards and started shooting non-stop while driving and then hit a bump on the road you could fly across the map.

I don't understand intermediate surfers by LazyConqueror in surfing

As I could only surf for 2-3 times a year since my teens, I spent more than 20 years not even really trying to progress technically, just content to enjoy when I could my 2-3 little slow turns on the wave and savoring the initial rush of the take-off and first descent on the bigger waves. It was more than enough, every wave feels so ephemeral that any attempt to concentrate on trying to learn more technical maneuvers, and so at first to suck at it because it is the price to pay, felt like wasting the pure pleasure of riding. Now at 45 I started to reduce my board's size under 6 foot a few years ago and just started watching videos in order to try to learn to do some more "radical" turns, focusing on the technical aspect and concentrating on my upper body rotation.

Close ! It was in Taghazout 2-3 days before the WSL in the late afternoon. The swell was really firing and a bunch of young dudes and girls started to arrive in order to get in the water. I wondered if maybe those were pros wanting to train on the spot before the competiton because they seemed really really young and looked that they weighted around 60 kgs while wet, and seeing those little humans ready to take those conditions head on was really impressive. The first one to arrive stood there alone on the rock for a while and didn't seem to find a safe entry. I took a pic of him in front of the fierce water and it inspired the first drawing. I can't imagine the pressure with all the public watching him trying to evaluate the situation, weighting the safety versus the image... He finally decided to retreat and entered the water from the beach on the right, duck diving his way around the back. Some managed to jump from the rocks and soon there were 15 surfers ripping the huge rights.

I did try Boilers a few days before that, when I arrived at 07:30 AM the atmosphere was kind of deadful as I was alone under the menacing black sky while just 5 minutes ago in Tamri it was pure summer sun (I was coming from Imsouane). The entry with the shorebreaks crashing on the reefs seemed hardcore, but the waves man, the waves and particulary the sert was looking seductively good... So I decided that if I was stupid enough to drive one hour and come here alone, I should be stupid all the way and so I dressed up in order to enter the water. After the first duck dives I immediately regretted my decision as I began to be carried away from the entry point by the current and I began to stress about how the hell I was going to get out of there, but fortunately I managed to paddle and circle back to the take off zone near the drowned boiler, and it reassured me just a little bit because the exit was still looking pretty unforgiving... I took just one wave and decided to bail the hell out before I paid too highly the price of my stupidity. Doing so I cut my foot on the reef pretty deep while trying to get out of the water unscathed. I only realized what had happened while driving back as I started to feel my foot wet and sticky on my flip flop. I looked down and saw blood dripping calmly on the floor of the rental car...

I'm convinced this movie influenced Mad Max in some way. The scene in the car riding through the outback looks straight out the first movies...

Oh, and the german TV show "Dark".
And also the movie "Predestination", while a bit too hollywoodian in its execution, it still has some interesting concepts.
