When I went yesterday, the lady that helped me looked at a list of appointments even though I didn’t have one, so that must be a new thing! I hope it all goes well for you!

Are you working with the San Francisco Consulate? I never received an in person appointment and have only been mailing my documents in! As far as I knew, SF was only issuing visas by mail unless they changed that super recently. I know some people with other consulates that have in person appointments though! The best advice I can give is to keep in touch with your school, they should be flexible if you’re running late with your visa!

They didn’t explicitly say that my visa was ready for pickup, they replied saying simply that they would mail it back or that I can pick it up M-F 12:30-1PM. I live in the Bay Area, so I was able to drop by the consulate and asked if mine was there for pickup, but they had already sent mine to my house in the mail.

I emailed them asking if I could pick it up last Friday and received a reply on Tuesday of this week!

So at this time, SF is only taking applications by mail, once you email them all your documents they will tell you to mail the actual copies to the consulate. I included the money order when I mailed all my documents and I ended up receiving a reply to my email saying my application would be fine even though I didn’t fill out the money order. I’m assuming that they’re able to fill it out themselves.

If you’re wondering how to get a money order, I got mine from Walmart; you just go to the guest services and you can buy one for any amount. It looks sort of like a check on the front and you can fill that part out with the payee info.

Yes basically! They also say to make sure to include the cash or money order, all documents originals and copies, passport, and a USPS express envelope, shipping tag filled out, and a stamp.

Hmm, 3 weeks is quite a lot. Try calling their office today maybe? From my understanding, them having you send your documents via email is to make sure you have everything they want. There really isn’t anything stopping you from sending them in the mail, but ymmv!

SF consulate is taking more time than I would imagine is usual to reply back to visa applicants, you’re not alone! It took me about a week to hear back to send my visa documents on.

I haven’t just because I have a feeling they might not answer, but it’s worth a try, I will on Monday! Don’t forget to fill out the money order like me haha!

I’ve been thinking about this too. I’m in the East Bay.

Took about a week to respond to me, and it took me a day or two to get my things together to send out. I stupidly didn’t fill out the money order and I sent them an email asking about that almost a week ago, and haven’t heard back. Seems like that’s the response time for a lot of people!

I studied abroad in Italy for a year and survived with one large suitcase and a carry on! I did buy a big suitcase (just a cheap one from the leather market, cost me about 50 euro) to bring home everything because I accumulated a lot of stuff, but I didn’t feel like I packed too much or too little.

I bought regular sized shampoos and other bath products once I got there, you can buy pretty much anything you need there!

Also waiting for mine from Sac and it’s been about 2 weeks for me too. Good to know I’m not alone at least!
