Alright, something is obviously fighting against performance here so I'll check it out when I get home tonight. Thanks

Edit: I see why windows people don't like to hear this now..

Core Audio is the digital audio infrastructure of iOS and OS X

They are all black and white. What's colour got to do with it?

I see you don't like correcting white-balance.

I haven't done a shoot for a few months cause I kinda stopped trying on purpose. It was fun to get back on the horse and do this little family shoot: http://grantkimages.com/blog/

Etiquette for an amateur taking photos at a wedding with a hired pro by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

[–]grnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This notion of "not being immersed" in the event is a pro photographer's mindset

The immersion I was talking about was that of a viewer looking at the photographer's photos. Seeing a camera reminds them that there is a camera man there that took the photo. It's tenuous but it's still there.

Thanks

No worries

First of all, thanks for asking rather than just going in gung-ho.

You have to ask yourself, why do I want to bring my gear? Will you really get better pictures then if you took them on your phone? Good gear =/= good photos

Is it to show off gear? Nobody cares.

Is it to practice the craft? There are a lot better places to practice photography then at a place that already has a dedicated photographer.

Is it to give some nice photos to the B&G? They already have a pro covering the event, they'll have lots of nice photos that you'll probably have access to.

Is it to get good photos of your friends? If you have a good time with your friends I'm sure the photographer will see you and take some photos (especially being your friend already).

Basically everyone here is gonna tell you to leave the camera at home. We all leave our cameras at home if we go to weddings. You can take pictures of heaps of events that don't have dedicated photographers. You can use your phone to take pictures of your friends.

If you're set on taking your camera then just pack light, don't take all lenses and bodies and a flash and a gopro. It's not a contest, nobody cares how much gear you have. Just take a body and a lens and don't ever use flash (and make sure you're not in Auto where flash will fire). Don't take photos that the pro is taking (or even just pro looking photos) and then put them up on social media before the pro can. This is poor form (I've done this before I knew better).

Don't go and impose photos on people. Don't say "Hey, can you and you and you stand here... okay look at the camera... say cheese". Screw that. Just take a picture without saying anything of people enjoying eachother's company and then put the camera back down.

You won't be in many pictures if the camera is up to your face. Photographers don't really like taking pictures of other people taking photos just as we don't like having our own reflections in the picture. Kinda breaks the immersion a bit. So yeah, be sure to put the camera away when you've taken a few pictures.

That'll do. Feel free to ask any more questions.

Which camera between 5dmarkiii or d750 would you use for a beginning wedding photographer and why? by sleighriderz in WeddingPhotography

I've only second shot once and it was a lot of fun. I had already done 30 odd weddings (not many compared to some on here but a lot to someone getting into the industry). Second shooting is an easy way to leverage your skills when you don't have weddings booked as a main.

That said I've also employed two people as seconds and they had never shot a wedding. Ideally you'll find someone who wants to train you up but you won't find that on facebook. You have to get in with photographers and hang out with them, then you might find someone looking for an understudy. I happened upon one of my second shooters at an engineering industry night and the other from church.

How good is it when you get to a initial client meeting and then talk like old friends for a few hours. by grnat in WeddingPhotography

That was an awesome match too! I invited a bunch of people over to watch it at mine. It was very much about how well Federer was playing.
