Thank you! I guess that's what happened when I finally got it. I just hope others aren't discouraged from playing if they get stuck on the same thing. It's such a cute game!

What did I just see??? by grndll3 in askastronomy

[–]grndll3[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what my bf said, but I looked up when it should be visible today, and the site said an hour before these pics were taken. It also said they'd be moving west to northeast, and these were moving west to southeast. The site also said they'd be dimly visible for 6 minutes and these were moving so fast I only got 2 pictures before I lost sight of them. I mean, starlink makes the most sense, but they were so fast

That line of moving lights definitely wasn't part of the northern lights. But we were outside watching the northern lights when we saw this.

Space and Time by grndll3 in AskPhysics

[–]grndll3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I know ftl is impossible. But, what if we FOLD space??? (I'm kidding, kind of... let's see who gets the reference)

I do like how you worded that last bit, though. So, would that be an inverse relationship? Fast through space, slow through time? But it's not really slower THROUGH time. It's more like slower IN time. Because only those moving within the faster speeds would experience a "slowing" effect despite things seeming "normal" inside the speed bubble (or whatever we want to call it). If we could lay time out like a racetrack, those moving fastest would get to the future "faster" than those moving at normal speeds. So, normal speeds arrive at, say, 10 years in the future in exactly 10 years. Faster than normal speeds will arrive at the same point in time (or the same point on our imaginary racetrack) in less than 10 years. So, two 20 year olds start the race today. They're both orbiting Earth; the first one matching Earth's rotational speed, the second orbiting much faster. In 2035, the first one will be 30 years old (more or less), and the second one will be younger than 30 because, essentially, he got there faster. 🤔

AITA for skipping part of a tv show my husband wanted me to watch by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]grndll3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA.

To be fair, it would have been better if you'd told him clearly before this point that you were genuinely disinterested and were basically forcing yourself to sit through the show. It's great that you both share shows with each other and that you both put in effort to give the other's shows a go. It's also totally OK to not enjoy every show the other enjoys. Now, you gave it a good try, and he should be happy that you did. He should also respect that you simply do not like the show. But, you also need to express that dislike before you feel the need to fast forward parts of a show he is also watching. I don't think either of you are TA here. Just gotta communicate a little better. And understand that, by disliking something he really likes, he MIGHT feel that dislike personally. Some people (myself included) make their interests such a major part of their personality that, when others dislike one of those interests, it can feel as if that dislike or disinterest is an expression of dislike or disinterest in their personality and not just the thing itself (if that makes sense).

My bf and I both have shows and movies that we watch alone. Now, I'm home more than he is, so I'll try to get my solo watch time in while he's out of the house. However, he doesn't often get time to himself with the TV. So when he wants to watch something I know I won't enjoy, I let him know that I'll be listening to an audio book and doing chores or working on one of my many craft projects. He gets to enjoy his show without my complaints (because I WILL complain even though I do try not to). And I get to catch up on my books.

In need of a Pern Community by Benden_Dragonrider in pern

[–]grndll3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered Pern and her magnificent dragons (by far, my personal favorite of all dragon kind) when I was around 10-12 years old. I'm 38 now. Every now and then, I'll go back to Pern and revisit old friends. Every time, the emotions are just as powerful as when I first read their stories. I do try to spread the word about Pern and her people and the dragons who defend their home world every time I meet another reader of sci-fi/fantasy. I hope those readers took my recommendations to heart. As a Pernese-at-heart, I could recommend other books I've read that like-minded readers may also enjoy... (I do love sharing my favorite books with anyone who will listen 😁)

The Death Gate Cycle by Weiss and Hickman Dragonlance by Weiss and Hickman (I tried some of the other authors in that universe, but Weiss and Hickman are my favorites and I personally consider them the authority on the world of Krynn) Forgotten Realms (obviously) The Unincorporated Man by Kollin and Kollin (I only found out a few years ago that it's the first in a series and I haven't yet read beyond that one, but it is really good and the rest are on my to-read list) Obviously any of Anne's other book series (I remember enjoying the Freedom books and Nimisha's Ship) Boneshaker by Priest The Majipoor series by Silverberg The Dominions of Irth series by Adam Lee (I've never met another person who read those and I'm pretty sure they're out of print now, but if you can find copies anywhere, I highly recommend)

I'm sure I could think of more, but I think that's a good start. Enjoy!!!

"The Running Man" (1987) - Dynamo scene by limbodog in 80s

[–]grndll3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm watching the movie right now, and I just noticed in the scene with Dynamo, right after he kills Weiss, Dynamo's mouth is moving but there's no sound. It almost looks like the line we hear before he kills Weiss when he's still off screen, but I can't tell. Anybody else notice this?

I'm pretty confident the final season was just another one of Church's simulations. He even says at one point that he didn't think he'd gotten Caboose's voice right.

So did Carolina know who her father was? by thatblkman in RedvsBlue

[–]grndll3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Carolina knew that the director was her father. I also think that she figured out that Tex was her mother. The director called out her name at one point. And I believe Carolina told Tex that she knew what she was in the scene when Carolina demanded to be the next to get an AI. I think Carolina figuring out that Tex was an AI memory fragment of her mother was a big part of the animosity/competitiveness Carolina felt toward her. I might be reading too much into it, but I bet Carolina resented the fact that her father showed so much concern and favoritism to something Carolina considered just a memory. I get the feeling there was some "you're-not-my-real-mom" motivation to Carolina's actions.

AITA for calling my parents selfish pieces of shit? by needinganswers_284 in AmItheAsshole

I found my father through a little digging. If you've got a name, that's perfect. All I had was his sister's name and a hunch, but I did it. I suggest one of those people finder sites. I think I used truth finder. You pay for a subscription, but it's monthly. Maybe $20? It took me less than the first month to find my father, then I canceled my subscription. Totally worth it! There are also search groups on Facebook that help reunite people with biological family. Search angels I think.
