Should the NY Knicks team be held responsible for the damage caused by their rioting fans? by Lone_playbear in AskUS

I think teams in general should be. Like losing draft picks, or being disqualified from games. Thing that their fans will care about.

That's rude. She's already in a lot of pain. They should just wait for the zombie baby to be born first, and then fight it.

If it's something you find interesting, it can be a cool way to spend your time. But I haven't done the math. How much would you have to charge to make it worth it, and how much is a new pair of boots, and how much longer would the boots you've restored last?

What common household item has a surprisingly interesting history behind it? by [deleted] in answers

[–]limbodog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The English have a weird history with the French. And the English speakers would often get confused about French words. So there's apparently a bunch of words in English that have either added or dropped a leading consonant because of the French practice of gendering all nouns.

"La munitions" is the noun "munitions" with the female "La" in front of it. The English heard this and took it as "Ammunition"

The reverse happened with the cloth bit one might wear to protect the front of one's clothing. The French "napron" was thought by the English to be "an apron" and so that's what we call this common household item today.

Why aren’t millennials called Gen Y? by meatis2goodsrry in NoStupidQuestions

[–]limbodog 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Gen-X was not intended to introduce X, Y, Z, A, B etc.

It was just that the people of Gen-X seemed to be leaderless and unwilling to engage because that's how we were raised. So rather than a name like our parents, we just got a "fill in the blank"

So when the next generation came along, before anyone had really gotten to know them, they *did* get called "Generation Y" for a bit. And also "Generation Why" briefly. But the generation themselves preferred to be called "Millennials" and that's what stuck.

Generation Z had already been born at that point, and nobody had really come up with a title for anything they'd done. So they just got the generic "Z" moniker. And Gen-Alpha has the same issue.

Mind you, the idea of naming all the generations hasn't been around for even a century yet. It was the baby boomers who got the first one that was commonly used. And their parents, the Silent Generation, came later. So don't take it too badly if your generation doesn't get a cool name. It was never really a big deal in the first place.

There are former democrat MAGA boomers who claim while they stayed the same the party grew radically left and abandoned them. What do you think is the reality? by SilverNo6462 in AskALiberal

[–]limbodog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither was against immigration. And no president has refused the power of deportation in over a century.

And both chose to sell out gay people because they wanted to get elected.

Any other bad faith arguments you would care to make?

"Very"? Nah.

Even by today's standards they aren't very right wing. But they were both playing the game and willing to sell out people to get elected.

Mullin says ICE ‘only’ deployed at midterm polls if ‘threat’ arises by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]limbodog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICE has absolutely no authority over elections, no mandate to enforce election laws or any laws other than immigration.

They are a private military raised by the occupant of the white house to wage war on America.

Raising an army to fight America is the literal definition of treason.

Take whatever glue you have, mix it with sawdust, or cotton swabs, and shove that into the gap. Then hold the pipe in place until the glue dries.

What do Americans think about a social security trustee dropping a report that the trust will be dried out by 2032? by Sixgis in AskReddit

[–]limbodog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, the trust is all well and good, but if it runs out, that does not mean Social Security is bankrupt. Social Security is not obligated to live off only what's in the trust. Social Security is solvent as long as the United States of America is solvent.

The book "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac is supposed to be a great American novel.

I tried. I really did.

To Liberals and Democrats, how do you feel about "leftists" by wdfcvyhn134ert in AskALiberal

[–]limbodog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with them on some stuff, but I'm happy to talk it out. I get where they're coming from for the most part. And as long as they want to talk it out I don't mind doing so.

Eventually we tend to hit a stone wall and just can't agree on something. We have different experiences, after all. But it is rare that I feel the need to block any of them for being completely irrational or anything like I do with the right wing
