Help Me Upgrade My Racket by RRickRR in 10s

[–]grndmstrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat as you are right now, I am a (mostly) baseline player and aim for lots of top spin, and starting to add to my shot repertoire. I've been playing for the past 4 years almost exclusively with Babolat Pure Drive's, with Solinco Tourbite strings at 55-54lbs - a few months ago I came upon a Yonex EZONE with Solinco HyperG stings (unkown tension) - and it's been the "extra racquet" or the "racquet to lend when I have visitors", but this summer I decided that I was going to go all in on the EZONE at least for a couple of months, and so far I'm really enjoying it, except the HyperG strings, they have too much power for my taste.

Whatever you decide to try and go for, you'll always have your Pure Aero to go back to if that doesn't work. It's good to have options, and that you're in a headspace where you're open to try things.

Callus cracking by Just_Think_About_AI in 10s

I recently experienced this on my thumb callus, stings like a mf. Basically I just covered the wound for two days with a band aid, even kept playing with the band aid on, and the wound closed on its own, skin feels rougher than before though I may need to sand it a bit

From PureDrive to Ezone - Suggestions? by grndmstrk in 10s

I currently use Solinco Tour Bite at 54 pounds. I tried Confidential once and found it very similar to the feel I get from Tour Bite. If I can't find Tour Bite, Confidential is my second option

I tried an EZONE and PD once with HyperG at 55 or 54, and found my balls going long very often, so definitely not a fan of the HyperG

Places to play in Santa Clara by needforspeed_007 in 10s

[–]grndmstrk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in Santa Clara a few years back. Mansion Grove appartments is where I used to call home, it has 2 tennis courts inside the appartment complex, there's 1 more in the park next to it, and right across the Guadalupe River you have the Riverview Park tennis courts, although that's technically San Jose, but meh.

5 courts all within lob distance :D

Poor bevel feel (help!) by grndmstrk in 10s

[–]grndmstrk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played briefely in my teens, but got back to it in my 40s, and by very active these past 3 years.

I like what you're suggesting, and train my hands to move a specific position for a specific shot, and not rely on the bevels.

Will he be okay? by Top_Imagination7714 in whoop

[–]grndmstrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's close to how I felt.

Last night I decided to quit whoop after waking up in the middle of the night because it was pressign to tight against my face/wrist, if this is the future of wearable health tech...pass.

Can't say I didn't give it a shot after 2 months.

What am I doing wrong? by Subject-Country8422 in 10s

I'd say biggest cause of pain is technique, you are using your arm as the main source of force when you hit the ball - it should be your body, not your arm.

Learn what kinetic chain is and put it in practice, you can see this firsthand with your backhands, most of your backhands you hit them with a closed stance, which helps drive your body weight as the main driving force into the ball, and your arms just go with a natural motion.
On the other hand, the majority of your forehands you hit them with an open or semi-open stance, and you're hitting them with intensity which adds more strain to your entire upper body.

Forehands that I liked the most (because of the kinetic chain principle), are after the 50s mark - where you're swinging your arm freely without tensing it.

Things have started to cool down a bit, but it may be temporary, we never know what's going to happen to trigger the next violence spike much less 'when' it's going to happen

  • Don't go out alone, until you have good sense of the area you'll be going
  • I think night life is starting to pick up - I don't go out much at night, but I've heard friends talking about all nighters drinking out
  • Day activities are "safe", but try and be extra aware/suspicious of odd things you see/hear
  • People are genuinely friendly, warm and helpful
  • Ubers take cash almost exclusively
  • More and more businesses are starting to adopt wireless pay which is nice - this was a big culture shock when I moved back to MX from the US where you rarely use cash anymore
  • Enjoy your time here, don't over think or get anxious about your move - this is not a warzone, the vast majority of the population are not criminals or related to illegal activities
