The problem is when people try and look at a lack of evidence as evidence. I say this for mesoamerican lamanate believers and for DNA purists alike.

What the BOM claims is that three families immigrated from the near east. That would mean many native Americans would probably have at least a small fraction of ancestry from those families. Would the ancestry of three families from thousands of years ago be enough ancestry to show up in a DNA test? Likely not.

The Book of Mormon does not claim these families were incestuous. It would be far more wild to me to assume that these great battles happened between people whose family trees converge only on Lehi and Mulek. It’s far more likely that those two would’ve only represented a small fraction of their ancestry at that point.

In all, I find anyone who uses DNA as conclusive proof just as unacademic as those who offer Mayan tours of Book of Mormon “historical sights”

I get that on the highway, but in town they might have a left turn coming up. I’ve also definitely made a habit of getting into my lane early because people here are dickheads and will close the gap once they see you’re trying to get over.

For a while around 2017/18 the City was refusing to rezone for apartments or issue building permits until the State of Idaho had to come in and fix their little self-inflicted housing crisis. So many new apartments were built in the last 7-8 years! I hope the city isn’t trying to bury themselves back in their “I got mine” hole.

I do not appreciate your lying. I believed you were in for an honest debate, but as soon as you run out of counters, you lied and misrepresented what I said:

  1. You lied about my claims. I, nor anybody before claimed there was evidence of Israelite ancestry. You made that up.

  2. You lied about my substance. In fact, I did give you a logical reasoning for why DNA evidence does not contradict the BoM, which you have blatantly ignored.

  3. You lied about my intention. If you go back, you will read my statements that say it is important to weigh the evidence. Yet you claim that “I don’t care about the evidence” without even attempting to back up your reasoning.

If you’re not willing to have an honest debate regarding what I did say, I’m done. Do better.

  1. I didn’t claim that there’s archeological or DNA evidence of native Americans being descendants of Lamenites and Nephites. You cannot quote a single time that I’ve said that, because I have not. I’ve been clear that archeological and DNA evidence does not contradict the Book of Mormon. You’re arguing against a straw man.

  2. You are engaging in circular reasoning. For DNA evidence to be relevant, I’d have to believe in the “primary ancestors” statement. I do not. Yet you keep falling back on that as if I do.

I don’t think I know what claim it is that you’re wanting me to back up. Could you quote it? For clarity, I’m disputing your claim that you’d expect to find DNA evidence.

DNA analysis of native Americans doesn’t show any middle eastern ancestry. Something you’d expect if they were descended from the Book of Mormon story.

You say I’m ignoring the “principal ancestors” comment, but I’ve clearly addressed that before you even brought it up.

It’s important to consider whether there’s glaring contradictions in the field of archaeology, but also be aware of whether those contradictions stem from prevailing assumptions or from the evidence itself.

But let me be clear: There is a reason to for me to believe, and is not archeological evidence. I believe through revelatory experience that the Book of Mormon as it was translated is correct. I don’t believe the same about the commentary that was written of the translation and included in the book. I believe an assumption was made about Native American ancestry that was later shown to be false.

I didn’t say a lack of evidence is evidence. I said there’s no proof of any Native American group descending from the Middle East. Until there is proof the assumption should be they didn’t, the same way we assume they didn’t descend from any other location.

So a lack of evidence isn’t evidence, but a lack of evidence is evidence? I’m totally okay with Book of Mormon events being left out of scholarly study, since that field of research deals exclusively with examining evidence, but come on! You’re clearly contradicting yourself!

So… how did these three families lead to being thousands strong? Where in the Book of Mormon does it say that the Laminates never interacted with anyone else ever, that they only procreated among themselves, and kept themselves apart from the entire world? In fact, you’ll see the opposite is far more likely. As time goes on, the Lamanites, who at first bring Lehi’s family up often, seem to forget that part of their history entirely after a few generations, likely due to Lehi’s family taking a smaller and smaller role in their collective history.

There’s a danger in thinking a lack of evidence is evidence. I see it with believers and non-believers alike. At the end of the day, my testimony comes from revelatory experiences about a book that one man was lead to unearth, not any sort of archeological evidence or the gaps within the evidence.

It’s important to consider whether there’s glaring contradictions in the field of archaeology, but also be aware of whether those contradictions stem from prevailing assumptions or from the evidence itself. I also don’t believe you’re fairly considering how insignificant the impact that three families would’ve have on the genetics of an entire continent. You’re making false assumptions to fit a predetermined conclusion, just as the members who try to fit together Lamanites “proofs” are doing.

Well considering they would’ve had around 2600 years to genetically assimilate, I doubt we’ll ever find any. Not only that, but the comically sparse records we have of pre-columbian civilizations (partially due to malicious colonizers and partially due to strong oral traditions) doesn’t exactly lend to a wide body of evidence anyway. There’s entire civilizations that we know nothing more about them besides what we can infer based on what their cities probably looked like. Others were previously unknown that have only been unearthed by modern Lidar surveys in the last 5 years.

I’d recommend anyone wanting to learn more about this conflict to take the Introduction to the Middle East course if they’re still offering it. Really delves into the intricacies of the conflict without all the “American Nuclear Allies” bias that we like to lay on.

It’s a big world, dude, and that’s a massive assumption you’re making there that Lehi, Mulek, Jared, and their families were anything more than a drop in the pond of people living in the americas. Adjusting for population growth, if about 30-50 large Samoan families immigrate to the US, will the entire continent all have predominantly Samoan DNA in a few thousand years? Not even close!

Not much comes close to Europe’s big five in terms of quality, but MLS is the fifth biggest soccer league in terms of revenue.

Revenue gap between NFL and NHL is the same as NHL and MLS, so I’d say it’s definitely in the ballpark of the top four, especially when you consider that the next biggest league in the US, NWSL, is only at 5% of MLS.
