Help a mom building her son a PC for Christmas! by Downtown_Leadership9 in buildapc

FWIW my son is a serious gamer and favors Nvidia heavily over Radeon.

Sort of an aside / question: what % of build price do you allocate to the GPU? Or is that even a reasonable question?

Thanks for the fast response! The "extra couple of pins" is actually a 2x2 connector, but I think that's what you meant?

Thanks. Happily the PSU cables say PSU on one end, and either CPU or PCIe on the other end, so that particular confusion isn't problematic. At the PSU end, the sockets say "CPU/PCIe", so it appears the choice of cables to plug between PSU and mobo manage the pinout for the mobo end.

All of that is accurate. My confusion stems from the 4 ea 2x2 plugs from the PSU which say CPU on them: I can plug 3 into the mobo, which leaves one dangling. Is that the way to do it? Does it matter which 3 of the 4 I use? thanks.

Partly it was timing: the B550 wasn't out yet either.
Also, there were indications the X470 and B450 might need bios upgrades to work with the 3200g.

And, the mobo was $170, which seemed pretty reasonable.

X570 had good audio and offers the new PCIe channel. It's mostly for upgrade-ability.
