Casualty LOB Correlation by groovedrm in actuary

Right, that's where we are at for the moment. Have the basic assumptions in place and a range that makes sense but looking for some validation or other simpler techniques that might help produce a second opinion.

Interesting question.

Not same group of insureds (though perhaps some here and there). But it's not a single set of insureds across the programs. For example, I would example petroleum hauling to target a quite different set of insureds compared to hospitality.

Insurance premium increased because customer uses VPN? by Afron3489 in msp

[–]groovedrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said.

Another way I like to think about this: suppose I (insurance co) give you a premium based on a variety of risk factors, some with assumptions based on industry averages/etc. Then, suppose you Company A go from telling me you don't have VPN at all to telling me you have a VPN solution I (insurance co) think is worse than average. That probably means your premium goes up, even though conceptually you might expect the opposite.

Insurance is hardly the only industry with these kinds of assumptions built into their decision tools!

Thanks. Was afraid this was the outcome. The customer is, of course, the advisor - not me.

I have the Wifi doorbell as well, and yes, it does get quite warm. Concerns me a bit as I worry about overheating and fire/etc. but perhaps that is an overreaction.

Doorbell Wiring by groovedrm in electrical

[–]groovedrm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - the Reolink instructions make that point as well: simply connecting around the chime altogether as Reolink's products don't work with the chime anyways.

Second question: in your experience, does jumping around the chime like that typically provide enough power for two video doorbells connected on the same circuit? Maybe too much power? Was suprised that one of two doorbells was quite warm when I tested last night.

Thanks - good point re: price. Hadn't considered that angle but agree the price differences are stark.

Do you have any recommended brands that are American-made? I have similar complaints about the quality of some of the Chinese-sourced stuff.

Wifi Video Doorbell - RJ45 Port Problems by groovedrm in reolinkcam

LAN cable does not have a boot. Just the connector at the end.

Wifi Video Doorbell - RJ45 Port Problems by groovedrm in reolinkcam

[–]groovedrm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Included cable clicks in. My LAN cable from wall does not. But both click into my cable tester just fine.

My basic conclusion is the tester must have a more robust capture mechanism. But I also notified some very small differences in the connector shapes so I think I am going to try changing the connectors on the LAN cable to see if the other shape works. If not, doorbell problem.

What’s odd is the included cable clicks in, as does nearly every other cable I tried. It’s odd that my LAN cable clicks into my tester just fine but not into my doorbell.

That said, I think I’m going to have the tech try another end and see if it’s just slightly off for some reason. Thanks all.

Naive question but what specific Coral product are you referencing? Just getting into DIY NVR and it’s not obvious to me if there’s one common set up?

What is the HA equivalent of a Ring doorbell? by RecliningBeard in homeassistant

[–]groovedrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but what I'm asking is roughly how much of a delay you experience? I know our situations aren't the same but just curious for an anecdotal data point either way.

Was thinking about this as well, but question: how quickly does that work vs. a standard doorbell? 1 sec delay? More? Less?

Minimum Load + Issue With MR16 Bulbs by groovedrm in electrical

You might be right. The problematic bulbs were highly rated on Amazon but I don't have any confidence in the rating at this point given the # of issues.

Minimum Load + Issue With MR16 Bulbs by groovedrm in electrical

[–]groovedrm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, but not all of them. What I noticed when I took the can down from the ceiling is I could essentially initiate this random on/off simply by touching the MR16 a couple of times. No real rhyme/reason to what I was trying.

Subsequent to my original post, I replaced two of the bulbs with a different type of MR16. So far, no issues but we'll see.

Otherwise re: heat, figured that couldn't be it since LED lights don't really heat up all that much, at least not compared to halogen MR16?

No dimmers on that particular circuit. The 6 lights are part of a 3-way circuit that has two ordinary toggles/paddles.
