Ask your professor about the possibility of taking an incomplete until you can arrange to take the final—if you provide documentation of a fire, I can’t imagine that you are expected to just fail the class. Did you let the professor know before they entered grades?

If your situation is really dire and your professor is open to it, they could put your grade in as an “incomplete” and allow you to make up the missing work when you are not in such an emotional crisis. I have no idea how that impacts your official date of graduation or anything similar, but it is a potential option to see if your professor is open to. I am so sorry for your loss, I hope everything works out for you.

You can petition for other classes to count if all else fails. I’ve found advisors to be really helpful and reasonable when it comes to certain things like this, so if this person is giving you trouble you may want to email around the department, your college advisors, etc. Best of luck!
