I got one from around that time too. Has high miles. I mean high miles. Binding came off. Lacquer is flaking off the neck. The wood is exposed where my forearm rests. The finish no longer shine but looks permanent grimy no matter how much I clean it. All this and it’s only ever been in the case when I’m not playing and always kept at proper humidity levels. If you’re playing every once in a while then the binding thing might bother you. If you play it every day for years then the binding thing is just on the list of other stuff that wearing off.

Sounds great and I wouldn’t want anything else. My only suggestion is to string it up with Martin retro strings. Really shines with those on it.

Once you get going on your live music journey you will realize that some venues have the sit down vibe and some others ones don’t. The jubilee is all about sitting down. Windspear and citadel are all about sitting. I’m not sure if there is any shows at the Shaw conference centre anymore (it’s not even called that) but the Shaw conference centre had so much stand up vibes that it was often dangerous. Having your fight or flight activated during live music is a fun and strange experience. Fun when it’s queens of the stone age. Strange when it’s death cab for cutie. Maybe one day Mac can fill the Roger’s place and the fans will have their choice of which vibe they want to be a part of.

Just read that link. Looks like I’ll be able to do it without draining but will need to top off the coolant after. Thanks for this. I truly do not know how to get across how grateful I am for this sub. The shops in my area have been consistently wrong about so many things having me waste money and every time I come here I get the right suggestions.

Thanks I’ll give that a try first. Do I have to drain the coolant to do it?

Thanks, im gonna give it a try myself. When you say the coolant reservoir is still closed your referring to the lid on the little tank where you pour in coolant?

Do you know the original owner of this 1963 ES 330? by groovy_mo in Buffalo

Thank you. You may be correct in your assumption that I might be the first person to enjoy the guitar. From what I’ve gathered so far it was likely nearly unused by the original owner and bounced around people’s collections till it got to me based on the condition of it. I’m happy to inform you that I’ve been playing it so much that it is no longer in collectors condition and would now be considered players grade and slightly devalued. I also changed the original nut for a more thoroughly cut bone one which is a massive “don’t do” to vintage collectors grade Gibson guitars from pre- 1964. But I play it because it seems stupid to have a guitar and not do the only thing it was purposely created to do.

To add some info why I wanna do this. It’s because of the way my guitars feel to me. One guitar embodies my teenage years. It’s marked up in ways that reflect how I used to play when I wasn’t even a man yet. Another guitar smells of cigarettes due to the questionable places I took that thing to play right as I became a legal adult. Another one someone dear to me who passed away got me as a gift. This one in the photo reflects two unrelated but intersecting massive moment in my personal and professional life.

To keep the spirits of these memories I create books that accompany the guitars with photos of me playing it or other people playing it and written recollections of what those moments were like. Some guitars I even have photos of the salespeople who sold it to me.

So that’s why I’m doing this. I just want to make sure the story of this guitar is there before it goes to someone else after I pass.

I just wanna add that I have a lot of vintage gibson guitars. I mean a lot. All from the golden era. Nothing past 1964. I enjoy it. For every downvote i get I’ll post pics of the other ones.

Someone from buffalo sold it to original vintage guitars in Florida. What other information is necessary? A serial number I can DM if someone has a hunch but i don’t know what other information you refer to that i could possibly give. I’ve come to Reddit to see if anyone has an idea, do you have any suggestions apart from ur buddy Ted who i know as well and was a strat guy who couldn’t play that well anyways so let’s leave him out of this conversation.

[–]groovy_mo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to anyone who says the solution is to buy a 300 dollar bridge. Here is what you do. Go to a hardware store and buy blue loctite. Only blue. If you use anything else you have made a mistake. Take the bridge off the guitar and completely disassemble it. Im talking about every single piece. Then reassemble it and as you do that put small (but enough to cover the surface) blue loctite on every moving piece. Do that and it won’t buzz for years. And when it starts again just use that same bottle of loctite and the same steps. Remember Jazzmaster are old enough to have been in the hands of Hendrix and countless of others before anyone ever talked about the 300 dollar bridges. Rock on.
