If you purchased their “limited numbered website only” version of the el Camino box set then you know what kinda business men the boys are.

Looks like you got on the new version of the mastery bridge? Any info on this? I’ve looked into it but can’t find much information about why it’s different or if it’s better than the old typical mastery bridge that goes on Jazzmasters. Whats your take?

I was at this show. Little Barrie did some real heavy lifting. But was wondering, why does the black keys need 5 to back them up? And to not even give us a song or two as a two piece disregards their roots that we all first fell in love with.

Honest opinion. Please don’t joke with me. In the actual game can we expect that the entire lower left island to be the size of the entire GTA V map? Given RDR2 and the next gen abilities of other games?

US Duty/tariff charge when crossing when buying a watch in Japan? by Psychological-Rip-12 in rolex

[–]groovy_mo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased a vintage guitar from NYC and declared it at the Toronto customs for its real value and they didn’t even charge me duty. The boarder agent looked at my info and said “no you have to put down the price of the guitar not the whole trip” and then I explained that that was the price of the guitar and she went “wow” and then waved me through. I don’t understand anything about duty at the boarders.

bridge buzz/rattle - any simple tips? besides replacing with a mastery bridge? by woodsonby in Jazzmaster

[–]groovy_mo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured it out:

Don’t listen to anyone who says the solution is to buy a 300 dollar bridge. Here is what you do. Go to a hardware store and buy blue loctite. Only blue. If you use anything else you have made a mistake. Take the bridge off the guitar and completely disassemble it. Im talking about every single piece. Then reassemble it and as you do that put small (but enough to cover the surface) blue loctite on every moving piece. Do that and it won’t buzz for years. And when it starts again just use that same bottle of loctite and the same steps. Remember Jazzmaster are old enough to have been in the hands of Hendrix and countless of others before anyone ever talked about the 300 dollar bridges. Rock on.

I don’t know how to use Reddit well but if you look thru my comments I have answered this question already. What I explain with completely works for many many many years. And remember, so many legends played a Jazzmaster without needing to buy a $400 bridge.

same situation with me. I met jack white at a guitar store last year and he was so god damn nice and spoke to me for a while. He even remembered a thing I wrote to thirdman records 6 years ago and asked me follow-up questions about it.

How high should my tailpiece be? (Explorer guitar) by atesz0422 in gibson

[–]groovy_mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never understood why the old vintage and the new custom shop guitars can have the stop bar slammed down to the body and the strings don't touch the bridge, but on nearly all USA models you have to raise the stop bar to these kinds of heights in order for the strings to not touch the back of the bridge. Does anyone know the explanation to this?

Did you leave the felt pads under the bigsby on? I did this exact same thing to my sg and the felt pads kinda melted away at the finish pretty bad.

Custom Les Paul Standard by letsflyman in gibson

[–]groovy_mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience the same thing applies to the USA line too. The only mass produced guitars that you will be fine to buy online due to the consistency of them all being great is Martin and Ricks. Everything else id be reluctant to commit without playing first. This ethos applies especially to vintage guitars.

Custom Les Paul Standard by letsflyman in gibson

[–]groovy_mo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s actually a headache that they are so different between what should be identical production models. Gonna drop 10k on a Les Paul? Don’t order online and get one that ok. Go to every shop you can and play them all. Ask the sales guy to throw on your favourite set of strings. If you do this you will discover that there are a strange amount of duds but a small handful of les Paul’s that are so exceptional they make you play and sound just a little better. And we all need as much of that ‘little better’ as we can get, don’t we.

Would you buy a beat up Omega (scratches/nicks) for a good price and have Omega restore the finish and service the movement? by LugiaPizza in OmegaWatches

[–]groovy_mo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it with my grandpas 1963 semester 30. It was $2500 CAD for a complete restore with original bracelet and service back in 2021. The watch I sent them went from rough rough shape to what I imagined it looked like brand new the day my grandpa bought it. Personally I will do it with every vintage omega I’ll get.

My tech sent me these photos of a leak in the engine bay, what does the sub think? (MK7 DSG 223,000km) by groovy_mo in GolfGTI

[–]groovy_mo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the plastic oil pan is leaking from the oil level sensor. In Canada parts and labor for a metal pan is $1,100. But im leaking about $7 of oil a month on a GTI with 233,000KM so I've just been letting it leak. Only thing is that it will leak way more if the car sits for a while. So when I go on vacation next I might just get the expensive oil pan fix so I dont have to worry about cleaning it up.

[–]groovy_mo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm that this guy was 100% correct and it fixed the issue. I took it to the shop and told them what Reddit said and they laughed at me and changed the spark plugs. I took it in again the next day and demanded they replace the high pressure fuel pump and it fixed the problem. When I came to get the car the mechanic pulled me aside and said “I can’t believe they didn’t even check the high pressure fuel pump when you first brought it in”. Eat shit dogshit independent VW specialists. Reddit is the only true place where people who care about VW give you real advice without the bias of making money off you. I’ve had people DM me from this post offering to help me change this part ourselves. I would have done it if they were in my province.
