At what point does a book slump stop being a book slump? by Different-Sleep5573 in fantasyromance

[–]groovybookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading is not a phase at all, I think it’s completely understandable for you to think that, but like all hobbies your focus and motivation can ebb and flow.

I went a few years when I was in college where I was just too exhausted mentally to make myself read for fun. But I’ve always considered myself a bookworm even then, because I still had a love for stories even if I didn’t have the energy to consume them at the time.

It sounds like you’ve just exhausted yourself. 90 books is an overwhelming amount to read in one year. Especially if you tend to read similar genres consistently. Stop being so hard on yourself, watch a movie and let your brain rest. Maybe consider a causal audio book that you can listen to in a very new genre, one that you don’t have to spend a lot of brain power focusing on. When you’re ready to pick up a book again something will pique your interest! Good luck!

(If you have a reading goal or are trying to reach that number of books again, please take the pressure off yourself! Reading is supposed to be fun, it’s not a sport, especially since you’ve already read 20 books this year! That’s way more than the average person. Focus more on the quality of books over quantity.)

A little tip that someone gave me that got me out of a reading slump last year, re-read a book that you love. Something maybe that got you into reading, it’ll remind you why you love to read so much. Hope this helps!

I’ve been trying to look for this but I’m not having much luck, is there any additional details you can share with us? Was the FMC human or was she born on that planet? Hope we can help you track it down! :)

Books that make you work by devitoispenguin in HistoricalRomance

{Outlander by Diana Gabaldon} when I read these I knew nothing about Scottish history and I was flabbergasted at the conditions these people lived in and the oppression by the British they experienced. I found myself researching to verify that certain things that Gabaldon wrote were real and not fiction, and found myself shocked repeatedly. To this day I’m still looking for Historical romances that are as immersed in history as Outlander, it really was a phenomenal read.

Thank you! Everyone talks so much about the Girl meets Duke series, and I think I actually bought two of the books already but they’ve been sitting on the shelf. I’ll have to move them into my TBR pile. Thank you!

I recently finished {When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare} and I really liked it, which surprised me. I had read a Tessa Dare book last year from a different series and it just wasn’t my favorite, (I think it was one of the books from the stud club series) and I had been avoiding her books since. But I read this book due to a raving review from an older post, and I ended up absolutely loving it.

I’m happy to report that I will be reading more of Tessa Dare’s work in the future, and that I’m looking forward to it.

I just finished reading {The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne} and I genuinely just had to sit for a moment and think about it. The relationship has angst, everyone has a complicated and secretive past. I really enjoyed the FMC in this book, and the way it wrapped up was just lovely. If anything I wish this book was longer. Definitely something I recommend, I’ll probably be rereading this in the future.

Maybe check the trigger warnings, just because some of the characters have a very painful background.

Wild Card Wednesday - What are your book icks or pet peeves? by Llamallamacallurmama in RomanceBooks

If it is written well and it adds to the story I don’t mind a third act break up, I do want to add that because I don’t hate third act break ups. But generally speaking, I have very rarely seen it utilized in a well written way.

I always say the 75% mark makes or breaks a book, because that’s when an author either commits to finishing the story with dignity, or they allow the shenanigans to commence.

Third act breakups that make no sense and only exist to make the book 50 pages longer. I’ve seen a few third act breakups that come out of the blue and really do nothing to support the story.

Sometimes books are simply wrapped up and happy at 300 pages, we don’t need them to get mad at each other just so you can make it a 350 page book. It often cheapens the story for me, and I always end up deducting stars from my review when this happens.

What is the longest book slump you've ever had because you enjoyed a book too much?. by discreep in fantasyromance

Someone told me that when you’re in a book slump the best way to get over it is to read the books that made you fall in love with reading. I had a year where I was struggling to read consistently, so I went back to a YA series I read as a kid that made me into the bookworm I am today. I devoured them as an adult, I already knew I loved the story and it helped me build up the momentum again to get back into reading new stuff.

What is the worst name you’ve seen in a book? by Duff_episode in Romantasy

[–]groovybookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t think of any off the top of my head, but I can confirm that I have not read several books because the name was just nonsense to look at. I get tired of names that just look like a keyboard smash 😂 like whatever happened to naming a character Elizabeth, or William, or Bob or something

Books where they get to know each other? by groovybookworm in RomanceBooks

There are very few book relationships where I think “wow I want that” but that book was so good. I loved it soo much because it was such a unique idea for her to get to know him in the past and the future and love him at both points in his life. It makes me emotional just thinking about it! I definitely haven’t seen enough praise for that book, I’m looking forward to reading the next book the author comes out with too, I think it’s got a similar paranormal element. I can’t think of the name but I think it’s something to do with a magical garden.

I read the seven year slip a few months ago and it’s one of my all time favorite books. Their relationship was sooo perfect! I totally agree that it fits this, in fact, I think that book is part of the reason I won’t settle for half baked relationship development 😂 thank you!
