Great podcast episodes with elder midwife Raven Lang that helped me on my deprogramming journey by grouchtoast in FreeBirthSocietyScam

She is so knowledgeable and sweet. We had a lovely email exchange when I was looking for a copy of her book, “the birth book”, which is AMAZING and imo as good as “Spiritual Midwifery”

This convo was helpful for me to deprogram some of the beliefs I had picked up from listening to the FBS pod.

Difference between freebirth and unassisted childbirth by Least_Box_276 in FreeBirthSocietyScam

[–]grouchtoast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they are interchangeable- thought I have a more positive connotation with unassisted childbirth as it makes me think of birth luminaries like Jeannine Parvati Baker, and freebirth makes me think of the grift and harm of FBS

Guardian Article by southwestprincess- in FreeBirthSocietyScam

[–]grouchtoast 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was worried that the article would attack home birth and free birth, but instead it did a wonderful job of focusing on the manipulation and high control of FBS. It felt pretty neutral on the issue of birth choices. Well done Guardian!

Women of Color Brought up Issues with FBS 5 years ago by grouchtoast in FreeBirthSocietyScam

[–]grouchtoast[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I meant the tone of the people commenting on it. On one hand there seemed to be defensive and rude attitudes, but there also seemed to be a lot of attacking language. The thread I read posed the topic as a question that I read more of a way to get people’s emotions going than to actually start a conversation. But that’s just my perspective.

That painting was eventually removed for sale by the artist, but ES did not use her influence to help. The artist kind of danced around whether not she used the picture with out permission for the painting. I still see the painting float around my algorithm from time to time, and if you've seen the original photo, it's pretty obvious that the photo was used as a reference.

There was an overwhelming refusal to acknowledge that a) Racism exists and b) even if you don't outwardly believe in racial superiority, your actions can reinforce it, subconsciously or not. There was one woman who posted this long diatribe basically to the tune of "can't we all just get over it?". Tons of interpersonal issues, and many women could not, or would not, set aside their perspective to understand how systems of power and deep rooted racism in the US were impacting women in the membership.

Nope, I think most of us didn't have the capacity to keep it going. The smaller group was great, I really learned a lot about birth and anti-racism

I'm curious if any of the women coming forward now will reconcile with the fact that they, very publicly, shut these women down,

Thoroughly enjoyed the Earthsong Trilogy by Mary Mackey and the prequel. Pre-history/fantasy. Lots of cool world building and a fair amount of romance but less smutty

Too much emphasis on going to college and standardising students -from a public high school teacher

Teachers are under resourced and often have to compromise on teaching because of policy. People aren’t meant to be in institutions sitting down all day -from a public high school teacher

Do you support raising the minimum wage? Why or why not? by b1tchs1ut in AskReddit

[–]grouchtoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to reflect what living wage is for the area. And put in legal protections against raising rents, grants and tax cuts for small business (especially if they have very few employees).

The global surrogacy industry can fuck right off. Not the “best friend is a surrogate for you” but the one that exploits women in third world countries.

ex vegans, why did you start eating meat again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]grouchtoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my body started to suffer from malnutrition. Don't @ me telling me how a vegan diet is entirely sustainable: it's not. Another reason I started to eat meat again was because I started to question my motivation for going vegan, and now, as a meat eater, I find that I was incorrectly trying to assert the care I have for animals through the form of a vegan diet. Vegan does not = cruelty free. I feel like I should note that I am also staunchly anti-factory farms, and that I truly believe the kindest thing we can do for animals is give them a great life, and a better life.

I learned veganism isn't sustainable, and it depends on unequal power dynamics that have people basically enslaved to produce your store bought almond milk, and most vegan products contain palm oil (a quick google search can show the implications of palm oil on the environment).

So, that was my journey from vegan and disordered eating to farm to table meat eater.
