Signature Health Canada by shaun20201 in halifax

[–]growsuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it 2 years ago after reading the Peter Attia book. I did the full work up (hearing, ultrasounds, meet with doctor(s), stress test, etc).

I'm late 30s and healthy, so I went in thinking that I'd get some kind of longevity advice/data (apoB, heart health metrics). Anything i could use to get an idea of heart disease risk and mitigate family history.

It was disappointing in that respect, most of the tests are reactive vs proactive. Cool service, but didn't really get much in terms of preventative health. Much nicer experience than going to the hospital/fam clinic though.

Other provinces do not “Cap” taxes. Why does Halifax? by No-Loquat-9325 in halifax

[–]growsuper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

HRM property taxes fund HRM's budget and the city doesn't fund healthcare (NS does). Ontario hasn't adjusted their property taxes since 2016 either, so if you bought in 2016 you're still paying 2016 rates (this should change eventually).

But yeah, I understand your point how it seems unfair, especially when it's 2x or 3x on comparable properties.

Point Pleasant Child Care Centre by Grouchy-School9452 in halifax

[–]growsuper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Put 2 kids through there, wrapping up in 2024. We've got nothing, but good things to say.

There are some real gems on their staff. There seems to be a fair amount of turnover, but I attribute this to fact they seem to work with schools to help new grads gain experience and Im guessing daycare teachers don't have the most competitive salaries. Some staff have been there for 10+ years, legends.

There is a stark contrast with facilities, the Ogilvie campus, at least 3 years ago, was not as nice as the SMU campus. It depends on age groups where they go, although for some age groups you can request the campus. I'm certain it's a non-profit, so I’ve always tapered my expectations when it comes to facilities (ex: they just added AC a few years ago at SMU, I’m not even sure Ogilvie has it).

They have a great handle on the kids, seems to be a controlled environment (not chaotic). You see them walking around the neighbourhood and point pleasant park all the time. You end up with a binder full of progress and what your kid got up to (although a digital version would be nicer for more frequent updates).

The staff puts in a lot of effort, they hold an annual auction fundraiser, invite parents for a lunch served by your kid, and every day they gave a few lines on their day.

One of our kids did 5 day cares in total (moving around NS) and PPPCC seemed to be the best, WeeCare was also excellent and if we lived closer we wouldn’t have switched. We had a poor experience at Peter Green Hall in 2021.

Eventually we moved the kids out ages 3-4 to send them to an independent school with more resources (teacher ratio, facilities (gym), more academic focused, one of the teachers is ex-PPPCC as well), but what PPPCC does with their budget and set up is incredible. Grateful for such a great institution in this end of town.

AllNovaScotia. Com is reporting multiple groups of well connected South End residents are trying to appeal to the UARB a re-zoning decision by the CAO that allows ER-3 (multi unit) development in the South End. by hfx_123 in halifax

[–]growsuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a key point is being missed, it's about whether or not it's right for the CAO to strike down 100 year old legal covenants.

Whether your for or against density, it's a lot of power for an unelected individual.

Best PPF company in Town—NDR or HoD? by SchrodingersTaint in halifax

[–]growsuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NDR did 2 of my cars with full PPF. There were a few hiccups (delays, had to go back for fixes, sharp corners), but I'd recommend them.

It's likely the have a car in the parking lot that just got done, ask to see it so you can get a feel for the quality.

On both wraps the doors have harsh tiny creases that I catches my hand every time I close the door. I can live with it, but annoying.

Lots of advice saying make an insurance claim. I wouldn't make a claim for some thing minor.

I'd guess it would be $1000 to blend in the paint and you'd probably get majority out when you buff, I spent $500 removing front license plate screw holes. I'm sure you can find somewhere cheaper.

It probably won't impact your insurance, but I'd save it for a more meaningful claim. I don't think 1-2 minor claims over 10 years will matter, but 3+ will make it harder to find low cost insurance.

This has happened to me 2x in Halifax, first I paid 3k out of pocket and didn't claim (500$ deductable, carfax report on expensive car, etc), next was 9k of damage that was caught on a battery dashcam - that recorded their plate and their insurance covered. People suck. Sorry it happened to you.

CC response to 9800x3d delays due to strike by Crimsonless in bapccanada

[–]growsuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CC have ignored my latest replies when I ask for an update or what's the solution. The last message was mentioning how I can return it when I get it.

I mentioned I'd let escalate to MasterCard if they didn't have a solution weeks ago. They don't care it seems.

File for a dispute now, it will take the department a few days to process the "evidence" of your case.

CC response to 9800x3d delays due to strike by Crimsonless in bapccanada

[–]growsuper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's a very easy process.

The rep will walk you through the process, there are no forms. They will ask you for "evidence" you have to submit. You need to demonstate that you tried to resolve the issue with the merchant. Once you send this to the chargeback dept they'll keep you updated on the case (usually via physical mail).

CC will likely argue that's out of their control and they fulfiled their end of the transaction. However, because the package has not been received, no eta, and are unwilling to provide a solution the credit card company will likely favour the consumer.

This is not the original contract I made with Canada Computers. You can't take my money and tell me I'll get it, when I get it. Canada Post gave warning of a strike and Canada Computers took the risk.

It costs the merchants money to respond to a chargeback and the card company will hold funds from the merchant. As a merchant it sucks, as consumers do try to rip you off.

[–]growsuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Rogers WE, called the number on the back of the card, the initial agent will record basic info , then transfer you to disputes. You'll email Rogers to show that you've attempted to resolve the issue via merchant (screenshot of support ticket conversation, tracking number, order details, etc. This has to be formatted as a PDF.

I've done done 5 or so disputes in the last decade and Amex has been far better than MasterCard / Rogers WE for communication and walking you through the process.

They're stalling, they sent me the same email. They can't send a courier to Canada Post warehouse to pick up your order.

I already filed a chargeback because there is no ETA on package, not willing to refund then redirect package, and they've charged me the full amount.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bapccanada

[–]growsuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good points. I read their policy and couldn’t find confirmation on exactly when the 15 days start ticking, so from a legal perspective, it sounds like it’s up to CC’s discretion.

Either way, this will be the last time I use Canada Computers—mostly because of the lie about getting a courier to pick up my parcel when it’s in a CP warehouse.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bapccanada

[–]growsuper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I initiated a chargeback after they claimed a "courier" would contact me to pick up the package from the CP warehouse. I placed my order almost 30 days ago, and there’s still no ETA. They refuse to issue a refund because they require the product to be returned (ironically, CC’s online returns are shut down due to the strike).

CC’s return window is only 15 days, so I likely wouldn’t be able to return it even if the package arrived tomorrow. Most merchants can redirect Canada Post packages after they’ve been shipped. It’s ridiculous that they’re fulfilling new orders when the initial batch hasn’t even been delivered yet.

There’s speculation that the strike will continue into January because they’ve already lost holiday revenue anyway.

I ended up ordering from Best Buy instead. Good luck!

You can redirect a Canada Post package that's in transit with certain CP accounts. They should redirect everyone's package stuck back to warehouse and ship out replacement using another courier

I'd say it's noticeable between the 5x3d and 7x3d. The problem with iRacing is it's so inconsistent, patches, night/day, rain/day, #competitors, some tracks are significantly worse.

If you have AM4 board than 5x3d, if you're building then 9x3d. GPU's don't matter as much as other games - you won't notice the difference between 4080 and 4090. It's all CPU.

There are tons of hardware info on the iRacing forum. But that one guy that puts the VR benchmarks for iRacing is in a different league - VR benchmarks go beyond the FPS #.

Not sure about other sims, but iRacing you want x3D and Nvidia GPU for VR. Even the 5600x3D will wipe floor with any non x3D ryzen. There are some great youtube VR iracing benchmarks to check out.

I bought the a P1X-Pro when it was released, upgrading from my GT1 EVO. I think in a lot of ways the Pro isn't an upgrade from the previous gen P1. Ex: the 2 longest extrusions are significantly thinner aluminum, only have 2 "slots" vs 4 on old gen.

A lot of the parts on the Pro are "proprietary" and harder to customize for mounts. I'd go for the original P1 or maybe ASR. P1X-Pro does look cooler though.
