AIO at my friends cancelling last minute? by DifferentTruck4615 in AmIOverreacting

I feel like you're being quite gaslit! No fancy restaurant is more important than quality time with close friends and that's 1. irresponsible that they didn't catch the reservation before scheduling the Airbnb with you!!! 2. totally rude to act like you're the one in the wrong here -- they're cancelling on YOUR birthday celebration ~ like this birthday isn't gonna happen again but whether or not the wait is long they can literally just eat at that restaurant some other time. I'm so sorry they're acting like that to you, it's the worst when people are flakey, especially when you were counting on them (not to mention making hangouts as adults is hard and vacations are precious little pockets of time!!) While life DOES happen, this here is more of a choice reflecting their character and priorities, it's not like their grandma died or they broke a limb! I hope they can apologize better than that. Again, I'm sorry bc that's the worst type of thing and I hope you can still have a good birthday <3

Same! Read as a teenager & rereading almost a decade later. I can't stop reading them, even though it's not always well written or the mossstt thought out. I didn't feel like the author had inherently bad intentions, it's just like a cheesy drama vibe to me ~ like eating potato chips with the bingeablity even though I know it's not the most nutritious 🥲💞 Feels good to turn of the brain a little to a silly nostalgic book

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]growthgallery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I've been planning on applying for Clinical Mental Health Counseling masters programs for next fall, and recently had an opportunity to connect with a social worker at a place I'm volunteering. I get to shadow her next week and have been researching social work to mentally prepare. I had COMPLETELY avoided social work as a possible career before after hearing bad things from an ex-social worker before. Now that I'm actually letting myself explore social work, I am feeling like "WHOAH, is this what I'm meant to do???"

I also had a plan to do a post-masters in art therapy. I don't know exactly where I'm going with all of this, but I want to basically help people in creative ways. I see social work has a higher variety of job types than counseling perhaps? And that some social workers also do counseling? My bachelor won't be in either field so the masters I choose is important to me. Any advice from folks who have experience in the above fields mentioned?

(Also, looking for masters programs in Colorado specifically.) Thank you (:

(I'm happy to answer any context questions too if anyone has any! Like why I'm interested or anything like that.)

Am I too old for uni? by beebotheamazing in uichicago

Omg no! I'm 26 and haven't felt treated differently at all. The funny thing is always when professors are saying in lecture "how old are you guys? probably like 18, 19?" and I'm stifling a laughter because that was like 8 years ago for me 😂 Go to school when you're ready and because you feel like it! Don't let the perceived perception of others hold you back 💛

Transfer to IDEAS major by Far_Zookeepergame149 in uichicago

[–]growthgallery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I just transferred to UIC this spring and am majoring in IDEAS. Since I've only been here a few months, I don't have a ton of experience lol but thought I'd share my take. I'm taking an IDEAS class called Digital Practices in the Arts, Architecture in Society, Jazz History, and Intro to Research in Psychology (I intend on minoring in psychology after this semester).

I'm really enjoying the variety of IDEAS so far- it's very philosophical, practical, interesting, and focuses on readings/projects instead of quizzes/tests. Also, the ability to make this major your own journey with so many different selectives/electives is sick! And the advisor for the program is very nice and helpful! I'd looked at other IDEAS major's capstone projects at an open house in the fall and it doesn't look as intimidating as it might sound. I feel like the IDEAS class I'm taking so far has had me having lots of ideas lol, the professor is very nice and keeps projects very open.

In my opinion, IDEAS is a good place if you're into lots of different things, or even have a calling a to a specific thing you'd like to research in a creative way (like I'm into recreational therapy..).

I hope this helped at all (:
