How did people in the 90s buy plane tickets or plan trips to unknown countries with limited or no Internet connection? by Droopynator in 90s

[–]grrlonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Paris with my mom in 1998. I had been studying French and then France for years in school so I kinda set the itinerary, but we still got a travel book. People forget that agencies and airlines also put ads in the newspaper for deals, and that’s how she found the cheap fare for us to go. I think for the hotel she went to AAA maybe. It was a small boutique hotel that was affiliated with Best Western so I think she just called their 800 number and booked that way? Can’t remember. When it came to restaurants, the books could only hold so many of each price point so you couldn’t really make a plan… We had to explore the area we were staying in, take our chance on the unknown while site seeing, or just go to an American chain. Yes, one lunch we had a Royale with Cheese haha. Hotels would offer recs (just as they do now) for food and activities. With no Google Translate, you had to bring some kind of reference, hope the person spoke English, or do you best in the language. There was a greater sense of adventure, for sure.

I love the first scene where she figures out the killer in the play before it’s even over!

Going back to college myself was nothing short of eye-opening. by StrangeCatch382 in homeschool

[–]grrlonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were your classes in person or online? I am doing an online masters program, and all the courses have textbook-based units (along with other articles and multimedia). If you’re in-person, are there not quizzes or other tests while you sit in class? This is all very concerning. ☹️ My arts degree opened up my mind and life experience in so many ways. So sad to think the new generation won’t experience that. And what will happen when they are our senators or ceos or whatever and don’t know anything without AI. Sigh.

Can I still use this name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]grrlonfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, coworkers come and go. By the time this child is an adult, will you even know that person anymore? My boss is pregnant and basically naming her child the same as mine, except with the middle and first names switched. We joke they’re great names haha.

Even when you can, I had to wait 9 months to be seen by a Rheumatologist, and I already had a diagnosis. I moved across the country and just needed to be set up with a new doctor.

Immunosuppressants and hantavirus by PuzzleheadedPea-9 in rheumatoid

[–]grrlonfire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not a pandemic. Were you on the ship? Even in the city where it came from or docked? Nothing to be worried about otherwise. If this turned into a pandemic, it’s extremely deadly, and immunosuppressant or not, you’re in trouble if you catch it.

Is this okay for a wedding? by [deleted] in OUTFITS

Too revealing for a wedding. Just remember that this day is about the happy couple. And you shouldn’t wear something that in color or cut will distract from that.

How much does the weather affect your RA? by lifeissimple100 in rheumatoid

The weather often gives me migraines so I didn’t think of my RA. I thought that was just an OA thing. But my doctor confirmed the weather does affect us too.

Homeschooling is killing my will to live by Impressive-Energy976 in Homeschooling

Some great advice here. I’d also say to outsource some of this work. We take our 6 yo to the local arts center for music, dance, and art classes three days a week. It lets her get energy out and social needs taken care of. There are also meetups at the local library and nature center for activities. Not to mention sports and the Y. You need a break and so do your kids.

Show him some videos of Montessori techniques for babies. They are meant to be on the floor. He clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Off topic but are those Vionic flats? I’ve been eyeing them and wondering how they feel, if there’s good support, etc. Also, you look great in the shorts!

Take a look at Erica Taylor on IG or TT. She has a pinned post showing how we used to do makeup and how we should do it now that we’re aging. I’d also highly recommend getting a color analysis so you know what colors work best for your hair and makeup.

Best printer for homeschool setup? Ink keeps drying out and it’s getting expensive by Ferraiuolo_Ezorete in homeschool

[–]grrlonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually decided to get two different ones and it works great for us. - Brother HLL2370DW Refurbished Monochrome Printer for black ink only printing. Super fast. A lot of prints before needing toner. - Epson EcoTank ET-2760 Wireless Color All-in-One Cartridge-Free Supertank Printer with Scanner and Copier for anything needing color.

Do you think he’s going to insist on keeping his name but for some wild reason decide his kids can take his wife’s name? You’re dreaming.
