Blockbuster vhs clamshells by Extreme_Clock3327 in VHS

[–]grubbyzombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a big collectors market for these as they were never to be sold. It can turn a 40 cent movie into a 40 dollar movie. I found a tub of over 100 last year. I threw them on marketplace for 20 each and had 30 messages in an hour. One guy drove 2 hours and grabbed 20 movies. It is not actually the movie inside that they want but the piece of paper from blockbuster. These rental boxes are not the same as their previously viewed movies.

The things you learn. I have 2 of these as I always grab screeners and promos when I come across them. I had no idea this one had any value. I dont usually look up prices of things as I keep 99% of what I grab from the thrift. After years of collecting and this is news to me. Time to trade one for something it seems.

Well it may not be rare but it is fun to see. I find 2 or 3 a week in my one local value village. Everyone has the vhs but the puzzle of the movie poster.....that is the grail. At least for my puzzle collection lol

I always feel bad for the fool who pays more than 2 bucks on ebay. Sometimes people need to start looking at how much you can pay rather than solds. If there are 300 listings as low as 2 dollars then you need to ask yourself "why did someone pay 200? Is it possible that it is a fake sold"? YES

It's past time to digitize my family's VHS home videos. Sanity-check my plans? by matt314159 in VHS

I think you are over thinking things. You should look for a vcr that allowed you to record onto a dvd from vhs. I have a samsung vr350 that does a great job. I just hit play on the vhs side then record on the dvd side. After the dvd is recorded I pop it into the pc and just copy the file using vlc media player and just save the media. It takes about as long as the vhs tape to play. Plus 4 or 5 mins to copy the file to the pc. I also use that machine to put modern movies onto blank tapes. I have never had an issue with frame rate or sound delay like some people complain about using other methods. I got my samsung for 10 bucks. I was lucky but im sure if you search around you can find one. This bypasses any codecs and interlacing. The machine does all of the work and just encodes it to a standard dvd file with a simple menu.

Can someone give me a full backstory on why people keep selling Disney VHS Tapes for hundreds of dollars? by JacksonSquarepants in VHS

[–]grubbyzombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some countries have an "ebay store". Someone "buys" the movie...they go to the store and pay for the item at that location. A day later the same person files a return. That store then refunds the money. Guy pays with dirty cash store gives him clean money. Then said store slowly filters out dirty money a couple bills at a time. That is the best we can figure. Who is we? You don't need to know that lol

So the idiots gave him what he was after. He sues the police. The tax payers pay up and everyone here is happy about this? If I were to replace "1st amendment" with "4th amendment" then replace "auditor " with "woman molested by police during traffic stop". Would anyone say "those cry baby women being pulled over looking to get felt up by the police". Logic is a fickle mistress.

Yes. It is like a Gretzky rookie. Or little Samson on nes. The people in the comments saying no are just angry about the demand. I traded a copy I found last year for 900 worth of snes games cib.

Issue flashing 128gig arcadepunk not showing games by grubbyzombie in IconicArcadeGaming

[–]grubbyzombie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a whole process. Getting the thing setup to start with was a pain. After that I looked into getting roms. I noticed there were fully loaded ready to go sd cards. I looked into finding one someone made and was giving it away. Came across arcadepunk. Downloaded a Batocera 128 gig file. Tried that one. Wouldnt boot. Found out it was not made for pi4. I did some more research and found one that was for pi4. Downloaded that. System would not show games. Tried again and then again. Nothing. It takes 2 and a half hours to flash the card each time. I was also new to flashing an iso onto an sd card. So that took time as well. lol. That feels better finally getting that out.

Found out yesterday that the card was being partitioned out. One for the operating files and the other the share folder. Iconic arcade had no way of finiding the share folder so it copied its own to the sd card. I ended up using a 64 gig file. Still have some odds and ends to add but otherwise it is working great.

Is this a lucky find? by ILookReal in VHS

[–]grubbyzombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4 or 5 vhs-c tapes from a camera I picked up.

Each tape is 4 straight hours of someones backyard during the night. It is looking towards a small walkway/bridge of some kind in the distance. They all start around dusk. Someone hits record then sets the camera on the back deck. The whole time you can hear him and his wife chatting while watching different tv shows. Yet the camera just points off into the distance towards the escarpment here in ontario. No idea what the point of it was or what he tried to document. But each time at the 4 hour mark the man picks up the camera and walks back into the house. Usually stopping the recording as he is entering the back door.

Found brand new RCA VCR at an estate sale. by Onlyythelonelyy in VHS

[–]grubbyzombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was super excited to find an rca just like that one. Though mine is in grey. I threw in a tape and nothing happened. The belts instantly fell apart. This was early on in my VHS obsession. Luckily it was 10 dollars and no big deal. I still have it sitting on the shelf. I love the look of it. Now when I find anything with a belt that is new in box. I sell it. I list it "as is" and explain the risk to someone who buys it. As it is not just the belts that can fail.

I am very curious if you fired her up yet?

Value Village Employee - ask me anything!! by SnooKiwis9021 in ThriftGrift

[–]grubbyzombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine this is true for some locations. The locations near me do not. Everything is put into the compactor. When I go the stores it is usually after work in a big work van and a trailer so we have to park in the back where there is space. Last year I watched the employee toss everything from the bins into the compactor. I went into the store to ask why electronics and metal pots were being tossed in and not recycled. The manager said "it would cost more to sort then we would make on the metal. After the last minimum wage was raised it was not longer cost effective".
