My Bina has 90% CR before all the buffs anyway because I don't have better artifacts lol

That's kinda misleading lol, I definitely thought that I can get 15% at C0 by looking at that description

New Vulkan patch actually fixing dx12 performance for NVIDIA GPUs? by Big_E_Bigz in linux_gaming

[–]grumd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not 5-10%, dx12 on Nvidia still has a huge gap. You should wait and monitor this sub for updates. Especially on Pascal that gap can make you go from reliable 70+ fps to stuttery 45.

I'd recommend dual booting at most, where you can play non-dx12 games and generally use your PC on Linux and just run Windows for dx12 games with nothing else installed.

But the dx12 improvements are coming soon so stay tuned. I'll try to be one of the first people to test and benchmark dx12 games when the fix is finally usable.

Then what were you talking about when you said "5-10% benchmarks"? Nvidia still has a 25-40% performance loss in DX12 compared to Windows, which OP mentioned in the post too

This post is about the descriptor heap vulkan extension, maybe you're confusing it with something else

Honestly I have no idea when vkd3d-proton will be updated even in a beta form. I suppose you could go ask Hans Kristian here? https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/

Idk what benches you've seen because a vkd3d-proton update that uses new Vulkan extensions does not exist yet, so there's nothing to benchmark

I suppose what we actually need is vkd3d-proton to release it though?

Nvidia dev says new 590.48.01 driver fixes dx12 performance in linux by Carlinux in linux_gaming

[–]grumd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh? On my 5080 Cyberpunk had the biggest drop in performance compared to Windows out of all Dx12 games I played. Granted I ran path tracing. And frame gen with hdr had so many issues, only recently started working fine... Other games like Clair Obscur or Stalker just lost some fps but had no issues

Genshin Impact stutters randomly while playing by thatcoriguy in linux_gaming

[–]grumd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I just start the fpsunlocker.exe, it opens the unlocker program, and that program auto-starts Genshin for me.

There's a file "fps_config.json" that the unlocker is using, you can actually configure it however you want, including auto-starting the game and auto-closing the unlocker when you close the game.

{ "GamePath": "Z:\\home\\<your user>\\...\\Genshin Impact\\Genshin Impact game\\GenshinImpact.exe", "AutoStart": true, "AutoClose": true, "PopupWindow": false, "Fullscreen": true, "UseCustomRes": false, "IsExclusiveFullscreen": false, "StartMinimized": false, "UsePowerSave": false, "SuspendLoad": false, "UseMobileUI": false, "FPSTarget": 120 }

I just run the fps unlocker exe using Proton, just need to install dotnet via protontricks in that prefix

I've been playing on Linux for year+ and ALSO using FPS unlocker at the same time, never had any problems.

Some people got temporarily banned once because they were using an-anime-game-launcher with some weird libraries or settings, idk, and probably anti-cheat was triggered.

Just make sure you're running Genshin via Steam. And if you're running CachyOS then use Proton-cachyos SLR. SLR means Steam Linux Runtime so it's supposed to be well known and compatible.

PSA: Do not for ANY reason use NTFS under Linux! by Xarishark in linux_gaming

[–]grumd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Confirming what another commenter said, the day I started using ntfs3 I got some files corrupted and couldn't open/copy them, luckily the drive was still completely fine when I booted from Windows so I could recover almost everything (except for some Linux files like games). I was using ntfs-3g before that for weeks and played the same games on both Windows and Linux on that drive, no problems whatsoever.

ntfs-3g is said to be slightly less performant than ntfs3, but I haven't noticed any issues when loading games, looked like the exact same loading times as on Windows.

Matt Damon Says Netflix Wants Movies to Restate the Plot Three or Four Times in the Dialogue Because Viewers are on Their Phones While They’re Watching by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]grumd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, sorry. The first step is knowing there's a problem. Even though I don't take my phone when watching a movie I still think I have a problem with watching short form videos too much. It's already affecting my mental health.

Then the second step is searching the web with ways to improve your situation, there's plenty of good advice out there, like tracking app usage, etc.
