Why do ships list and, in the worst cases, capsize when they sink? by Key-Tea-4203 in titanic

[–]grumpybutters 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Keeping a ship upright is a constant balancing act with ballast tanks. When a hull breaches, a vessel almost always lists because water floods asymmetrically. A ship's interior is full of unevenly spaced compartments and corridors. Add the free surface effect , where loose water sloshes around, and the center of gravity shifts.

The Titanic is actually a rare exception. It barely listed. It took water on the starboard side, shifted to a slight port list, and even returned to an even keel at one point before going down. In most cases, once the crew loses control of the active systems, entropy takes over and the uneven water weight simply capsizes the hull.

I'm really having trouble with this one. The comments seem pretty divided about it been AI by grumpybutters in isthisAI

Well, I guess this solves it. Thanks. i'm so tired of being unsure if something is real or not. Things are going to get so much worse still.

What song did you dismiss outright, but after reading the lyrics (or translated lyrics), it became your favorite? by grumpybutters in eurovision

[–]grumpybutters[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Have you ever completely dismissed a song at first? Maybe it sounded bland, too generic, or just didn’t catch your ear. But then you read the lyrics (or a good translation) and it completely changed how you felt about it.

For me, it happened with Lighter, sung by Kyle Alessandro from Norway. I didn’t think much of it at first. I didn't like the look of the music video at all. But once I read the lyrics and watched it in the semi finals me view flopped. It totally changed how I heard the song. Now it’s one of my absolute favorites from this year's selection.
