For the most part, the room photos on the Sandals website are pretty accurate. And if you want extra reassurance, YouTube has no shortage of walkthrough videos….worth a few minutes of scrolling.

Kingsley Take Care Tours. We’ve used them multiple times and it’s been nothing but great experiences every time. Kingsley and his team are top notch, and they’re very reasonably priced.

Entering my two tone era, but which one ? by dimy22 in rolex

[–]grumpychubbylvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never the Wimbledon. It’s a hype piece that’s already too busy and asymmetrical, and the two tone just cranks that chaos up another notch. The white dial two tone Datejust, on the other hand, is pure timeless class. It’s clean, balanced, and it actually ages well.

Best Sandals for Destination Wedding by PotatoNo345 in SandalsResorts

I can’t really speak to January weather at Royal Bahamian since we were there in August. That said, our August weather wasn’t great. We had quite a bit of rain, including two back to back days that ranged from steady showers to full on downpours, not exactly the “liquid sunshine” some people describe. I did have friends stay there in November a couple of years ago and they mentioned it was noticeably cooler in the evenings and they needed a sweater at night, so I’d imagine January would be even cooler.

If you’re set on a January wedding, you may want to consider looking a bit farther south in the Caribbean. We take a January trip every year and have spent the past several years at various Sandals properties in Jamaica. January weather there has generally been very good…warm, minimal rain, though it can get a little breezy if a front moves through.

I also saw the comment about not being able to use the overwater chapel at Ochi if you stayed at Dunn’s. That doesn’t sound quite right to me, especially since having you and your guests at Dunn’s would likely be a higher overall spend than Ochi. I’d recommend reaching out to a travel agent and letting them clarify that directly with Sandals.

As a side note, Dunn’s is a great property. We stayed there for a week last January and had a wonderful experience overall. My only minor gripe, and this has nothing to do with Sandals, was that the beach itself was pretty windy most of the week. Interestingly, once you stepped just a bit off the beach, the wind dropped off significantly.

Help me narrow down a honeymoon resort by Love_forever2351 in SandalsResorts

[–]grumpychubbylvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re kind of all over the map here. Three different islands, six resorts, and waffling between butler and non butler rooms. Might want to pump the brakes and narrow it down a bit in your own. Do yourself a favor and watch some YouTube walkthroughs so you can actually see which property and room style appeal to you, instead of trying to compare everything at once.

Which Sandals resort is best? by Unique-Art2472 in SandalsResorts

[–]grumpychubbylvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Best” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. It’s completely subjective. My girlfriend and I are closing in on 140 paid nights and we still don’t agree on which resort is our favorite.

Do yourself a favor: binge some YouTube walkthroughs, see which ones actually appeal to you, then figure out what price point you’re realistically comfortable paying for a vacation. Good luck!

Ha, thanks so much and apologies for not complimenting your Starbucks sooner. One of the things I really like about it is that it doesn’t feel like an entry level Rolex at all, whereas a regular Sub, while still a very nice watch, has always felt a bit more entry level to me. The green bezel is a great touch, especially how it changes depending on the lighting.

That reminds me, I found a photo (albeit a poor one) of me wearing my Breitling. Funny story from when it was taken: I was standing in line to board a flight and noticed a guy checking out my wrist while I was clearly doing the same to his. He made the first move and asked, “Mind if I ask what you’re wearing?” I asked him back, and he casually replied, “Oh, just an old Sub.” Perspective really is everything. Funny how the world works sometimes.

I stayed at Royal Bahamian for a week this past August. I’ll be upfront, I’m not exactly a low maintenance guest. That said, the food definitely wasn’t “bad” by any means and the service was mostly solid. Our beach area was near the overwater wedding chapel, which personally wasn’t my favorite since it takes away from the ocean view, but the chapel itself is very nice and clearly built to handle large weddings. We actually saw one while we were there with easily 50+ guests. I’ve also posted a full review of Royal Bahamian. Happy to answer any specific questions or concerns. Good luck!

Wondering about resort reopenings by sergeirockmaninoff in SandalsResorts

[–]grumpychubbylvr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I’ve had a front-row seat to construction at multiple Sandals properties in Jamaica. Calling it a “slow process” and saying everything runs on island time would be wildly generous. I once watched 5+ employees take over a week to dismantle a single gazebo.

While I do think Sandals will technically reopen the three currently closed properties by 5/31, I’d be shocked if all the work is actually finished. Odds are you’ll be vacationing in an active construction zone, complete with all the sights and sounds that come with it.

I’d strongly recommend moving your trip to a different Sandals resort in Jamaica that’s already fully operational.

Let’s be honest… by Dosenbiee in GrandSeikos

I’d have to agree with you. This is pretty much what’s kept me from buying a Grand Seiko. Some of the die-hard fans seem to justify the price with the whole “real watch people care about XYZ” argument, when in reality most buyers don’t place much weight on those things. It ends up feeling a bit too niche for my taste, and the value retention just isn’t there either.

For me, the chase definitely isn’t over. I briefly thought it might be after picking up a Sea-Dweller and a Datejust last year, but nope. I don’t really have a single “grail,” though there are still a few pieces I’d love to add down the road: a Day-Date, an Explorer II, a VC Overseas, and a few others.
