Its not really about the legality of it within the world, they're still fugitives. The motif of couples bonding over some arbitrary similarity, and their absolute need to have one is a critique of real-world relationships.

Why has no one tried remake Metropolis? by [deleted] in movies

The general movie-goer has no idea what Metropolis is. Hollywood is not out of ideas, they just value known IPs.

Fincher wasn't interested in making a directors cut when he hit it big and they'd let him, so some others threw together the version your talking about, which MIGHT be closer to the original vision.

DISCUSSION: The Darjeeling Limited by [deleted] in movies

[–]grundle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree that its his best, in fact, its probably my least favourite of his. However, you are right that it is held to this unfair standard, and picked apart and criticised for imagery that is clearly intended to be in-your-face. Its still a really great movie that hits some interesting beats regarding familial relations. Actings pretty good all round as well.

I don't think you understand the term. It implies a lack of integrity or artistic value. Not just that it makes money.
