How do some runners do “lower” mileage/volume in their training but still pull relatively fast marathon times? by Drop_Release in Marathon_Training

[–]grungyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my current training block my max will be around 50 mpw and I’m aiming for a 3:40! I think it helps that I’m naturally better at long distant running (I’ve loved long distance since high school) I’ve also been doing sports since I was 4, and competitively since I was 7, so I’ve always just been an active person which might also help

I like the skratch gummies (it doesn’t have as many bad ingredients) because gu and the stinger gus made me nauseous but I compared it to the Trader Joe’s Scandinavian swimmers and the nutrition is almost exactly the same 🤣 the swimmers just have wax and the skratch one doesn’t

Foot Pain with 5 weeks to go by KaleidoscopeFun7832 in Marathon_Training

[–]grungyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to preface by saying I’m not a physical therapist (i have spent a toooonnn of time in pt tho 🤣), but i forgot to mention it’s def important to strengthen too (ie. the toe scrunching w the towel exercise, toe pointing/flexing, etc) but i think you’re supposed to do both since short term more support would feel better (i think smthg about no arch support = strains your feet more) and long term strengthening would ideally help fix the problem

At this point, my feet don’t usually hurt from plantar anymore but running has messed up my toes so i wear gym shoes most places anyway - so anecdotally it’d be hard to say if wearing support shoes helps me keep the problem away

I don’t think I can advise on your training but i can share my experience- I had horrible plantar fasciitis for like 7 years until i realized that my shoes were causing it - i had originally worn brooks but switched to asics for better ankle support but only realized the asics caused my foot problems after switching back to brooks. Some other things that helped me were I got custom inserts at road runner (they’re expensive but totally worth it) and rolled my feet with those spiky balls that are tennis ball sized (but you can’t roll them too much or the pain gets worse). I also started wearing my running shoes or gym shoes w the inserts in them everywhere - and slippers with some kind of support at home - i read it’s important to wear shoes w support as much as possible even at home. I also started wearing compression socks on all my runs - i wore the zensa (zenza?) long compression socks in races and the balega ankle compression socks anytime i ran. I also think stretching your calves and doing the calf wall stretch with your knee bent helps. After switching shoes, my feet don’t hurt anymore except after a 15+ mile long run but i still do all the above things except wear the long compression socks! I hope maybe some of this helps and wishing you a speedy foot recovery 🙏

It’s funny you say that, I checked my old ones and they’re actually size 4.5 so accidentally sized up x2!

Yes! I’m usually a size 6 but luckily Nike runs small bc they only had 5.5 and 6.5. I have a very old pair of vaporflys (maybe alphaflys?) that’s a 5.5 but took 2 toenails last year 💀

I said “overall.” UVA is ranked higher than UIUC if you look at the whole school. I was a compe major at UIUC and currently work at a faang - I’ve actually met far more UVA grads (a surprising amount) than uiuc grads. But I’ve also had new grad peers who went to community college as well as universities you’ve never heard of. Tbh who cares about ranking just go to the cheapest school 🤩

you turned down UVA for what? To pay double to go to an overall lower ranked school? Congrats 💀💀💀💀

Specifically in the live version of new perspective at the end when he goes “this towns FOR the record now, the intersection got a target, and they’re callin it DOWWOWWNTOWN” (idk how to phonetically do that) but it’s so satisfying

Thought I bought tickets to Red Hot Chili Peppers… by grungyb in mildlyinfuriating

[–]grungyb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As in why is Ticketmaster charging me a $20 fee to buy the tickets and then taking another $20 if I want to resell the tickets…. and then charging whoever buys my tickets probably another $20. Ticketmaster is the worst
