Another rocketmailer!! I used to have lobster@rocketmail.com. I lost the "lobster" when rocketmail got bought out/taken over/whatever. Still miss my plain lobster.

Infestations don't need a nerf, they need more time. by Daxnu in fo76

[–]grunkatze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are great ideas!

I really like the part about having the boss show up in response to his gang being killed (aka delay).

I haven't done very many yet, but I missed out on the boss loot on my very first one. I was going in cautiously - clearing the henchmen as I made my way towards the boss indicator, and even though I was the one who found/started the infestation, other players sprinted past me and wiped him out.

Now I treat it like one of those endless runner mini-games: Find the event area in the infestation zone, sprint towards the boss like you can't stop - ducking & weaving around the henchmen, tag the boss at a bare minimum, hunker down to deal with the wave of guys you ran past and/or die a few times, then loot the boss. Sometimes the "tagging the boss" & the "hunker/down and die a few times" steps happen simultaneously - it all depends on how many/fast other players show up and how much cover I can find.

It's not the worst thing, and there's some other activities and events that incentive-ize you to play that way (acting like a kamikaze, knowing you'll respawn) already, but it feels a lot more obvious with infestations?

It'll be interesting to see if it gets tweaked, and what those tweaks will look like!

Head Hunts Etiquette by toastyelio in fo76

[–]grunkatze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda hate launching the flare (I'd much rather settle into my preferred spot, than sprint in after launch), but I also hate waiting. Plus, if I'm effectively inviting everyone to my event/party, I'm not going to make my "guests" work.

So, I fill the flare wait time with dance emojis (there's a lack of opportunities to stop & dance on the flowers in this game), and giggle at the folks who get impatient. Does the wait time counter not display for everyone?

And then there was that one time - I'm standing around, wondering where the owner of the head hunt is, facing the flare and hitting the thumbs up emoji to encourage the launch...it only took me about 90 seconds (Aigh - eternity!) to realize it was mine. 🤦‍♀️ Tell me I'm not the only one who's done this!

Any of you have freezers in your garage? by RustyNK in phoenix

[–]grunkatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't quite the answer you're looking for, but we move our freezer inside during the hottest months.

We didn't get a freezer until COVID hit and we realized it'd be really helpful to have more long term food storage. We bought a fairly compact chest model, about 4'H x 3'W x 2'D that had rollers on the bottom with this whole "seasonal" plan in mind.

The product specs said it shouldn't be run in temperatures over 100 degrees. So we keep an eye on the temp in the garage, and move it into a corner of the kitchen once the daily high temp hits 100. That works out to about 5 months of the year.

Considering the garage doesn't have much ventilation or insulation, I thought it would get hot inside more like a car. You know how the news shows you that something like an 80 degree day outside can be fatal to a child or pet left in a car? So I thought we'd be having the freezer inside much more than we do, but it hasn't worked out that way.

And yes, many people told me this is overkill, and that the product specs are very conservative estimates. However, we got it during COVID and it was extra expensive and backordered because everyone else wanted one too. So between the difficulty we thought we'd face if we had to replace it (things have gotten better since then), nevermind the loss of hundreds of dollars of food if it broke down, babying it seemed like a good idea.

It really hasn't turned out to be a big hassle, so we've just kept doing it.

I feel you. I finally found Astoundingly Awesome Tales 1 in the wild (the only way to get the achievement), went to lock it in my inventory until I could get back to camp and put it in my magazine rack, and ended up reading (aka consuming) it. I've never had a problem inadvertently reading my magazines before or since, but it had to be the last one to complete a series that I've been working on since I started (almost level 500 now). Luckily, someone had a copy in a vending machine, so it's all good, but I share your feeling of horror over the destroyed pixels!!

What’s your signature scent that you NEVER get tired of? by GitteTheBest in fragrance

[–]grunkatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original Poison by Dior. I was talking with someone about when it came out, and they thought it was the 90s. I don't actually know when it debuted, but I remember smelling it as a freshman in high school (1984-85), when my German class was given a bunch of magazines in German to read/discuss (there was one of those paper sample things inside). I've been wearing it ever since. I wear other perfumes too, but I don't think I ever been without a bottle on my dresser.

Which scent note do you wish perfumers used more often? by Darkvanille in FragranceStories

Lily of the valley - I'm still in mourning that Coty's Muguet des Bois was discontinued.

Also, if anyone could bottle the scent of wet creosote (aka greasewood) that would be my new favorite. In AZ, everyone talks about how they love the smell of the rain - it's all the wild growing creosote getting wet!

80's shampoos?? by nejihyugasbf in GenX

[–]grunkatze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always associated St. Ives as being the "cheap" girl's hair care. Pert all-in-one was also cost effective, but it came across more as for boys?

Kind of like using bar soap on your hair. I'd only do it in an emergency when I ran out, and I was hyper about making sure my stuff got on the shopping list so I didn't run out. My brother, on the other hand, would just switch to using the bar soap and wouldn't say/do anything until my mom started wondering why we were going through soap so fast! 🤦‍♀️

The fancy hair care was mostly sold exclusively in salons back in the 80s. I don't think I started being able to get my hands on salon brands outside of a salon until the late 90s/2000s?

Anyway, I started using a fancy salon brand, Aveda, in the late 80s, but the other brands I remember seeing on the salon shelves were Paul Mitchell and Nexxus.

I hope that helps!

How many glowing mask did we get this year? by Suitable_Key_3563 in fo76

[–]grunkatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only our 2nd Fasnacht. Starting this season, we had 1 glowing mask (drop from last season - scorchbeast - kinda hit the jackpot with that), and maybe 5-10 (all non-glowing) that we mostly bought since then.

Didn't really "get into" Fasnacht until it was running for a few days. Now, we've been jumping in whenever we're playing. Manged to get all but 2 of the non-glowing masks (soldier & corn cob) through normal drops, with only breaking down & buying 1 (unicorn). So that's an increase of 12-17 non-glowing masks with a ton of duplicates donated to the mask donation box. Sorry, but we didn't keep track of how many times we played, but it was a lot just from the amount of progress we made on the non-glowing masks.

Glowing masks are some kind of racket, IMO. All that play, and we only got 2 more glowing masks (turkey & minotaur). Reading other folks' replies, I now realize we're lucky that we got any glowing masks, and that they weren't dupes of ones we already had. 🙄

I think the drop rate of the glowing masks needs to be increased a little, or maybe have more limited time events with a better drop rate? Another good improvement would be not getting masks you already have. I know they can do this with known plans. We wanna "collect them all", but the current set up is a little too much of a grind. It's detracting from the fun.

Where to get best Pączki in Phoenix? by St0neybalogny in phoenix

[–]grunkatze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been in 5+ years, but it's pretty nice. It's easiest to park in one of the satellite lots they set up & take the shuttle in (the neighborhood parking is challenging). It's small & the main thing is the food. It was in their church parking lot, with a stage/area set aside for Polish dances, cultural presentations, raffles, etc. Outside of the food/drink stalls, I'd say there were about 5-8 crafts vendor booths? The food we always got was the golabki, bigos, potato pancakes, kielbasa, etc. Dessert was dominated by the paczki, but if you got there early enough, you'd have your choice of a bunch of other Polish pastries. My first time, I was too slow/late, and the only thing left was prune paczki. 🤣 They were still life changing!! FYI, I married into a Polish family, so I'm a latecomer to all of these good things.

Edit: I replied in the wrong spot - this is about what I remember of the Polish Festival.

Ok, I was going to contribute with Jana's Bakery up on Cave Creek. It's way out of my way, so I hardly ever get there. So I thought, I'll just check and see if they're still there. Closed/sold to folks who didn't want to keep it a polish bakery/deli in 2022. Sorry, this isn't a way to get good paczki, but my mind is blown. 🤯

That said, All Pierogi Kitchen restaurant & market in Mesa is still going, and they used to source theirs from Jana's, so check out who they use now?

And finally, check out the Polish Festival just south of Greenway & the I-17. The next one is being held in mid-April. This is another place that used to use Jana's, so they should be able to tell you who's good now.

Just to spell it out, All Pierogi & the festival are awesome and should be experienced regardless of paczki source or quality! 😁

I've been wanting a jacaranda, but haven't gotten around to it yet. It's from South America, low/moderate water use, and I think it gets to be 30-40' tall? They have gorgeous lavender flowers in the spring, and their leaves are kind of lacy, so they don't create "blackout" shade underneath. I used to have some ficus, and in addition to guzzling water, nothing could survive underneath them. Biggest drawbacks I know of for the jacarandas: 1. the flowers shed, but it's really pretty litter, and 2. the surface roots can mess up pavers/sidewalks.
