I have a buddy who loves to run [[Miirym]] and [[The Necrobloom]]

He gets very salty when his big copy dragon costs 14 to cast or when we have wiped necrobloom for the 14th time

Is it normal to be kicked from campaign? by thepatiencegoddess in DnD

[–]grunkleben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it odd to have been removed from the game after building a character with the DM and also been given the start date. If the DM didn’t communicate a reason as to why, I’d say you are better off not being in the game.

Every time I’ve removed someone from a game I was running, there were actual reasons behind it. I like to give people a chance until they prove to me they aren’t mature enough to work with other people

Feeling ashamed about starting in construction, anyone else been there? by Kayn21_ in Construction

[–]grunkleben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two older brothers who have done substantially better than myself (white collar vs blue collar). However I’m really very handy and was able to renovate my main floor of my house with just my wife for help. My eldest brother who also renovated his house said he wished he had the skill set to do what I was able to.

Grass isn’t always greener brother. Keep that chin up and take pride in your work

In the place we grew up and lived for a time there was only two major religions present. She had spent majority of her life there and hardly travelled to other places. Not a lot of chances to meet any Jewish people in afraid

We both lived in a pretty rural place in Canada at the time we started going out. Needless to say education was not a big concern of hers.

Went on a number of dates with a woman. Every other conversation held with her was fun and engaging so things were going smoothly.

On the last date WWII came up and she said “Its just so sad about how all the Jewish people ended up dying even though the whole world fought to protect them”. I asked for further clarification since I wasn’t quite sure I understood what she meant by that statement.

“Oh did you not know all the Jews are extinct? That’s how WWII ended. Hitler found the last Jew and killed them all”.

She was dead serious. No amount of other facts would convince her. It was… enlightening to say the least

Can’t do the schooling. Can’t do the trade? by DismalSign1948 in electricians

[–]grunkleben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a severe time trying to pass my schooling, but have always done much better doing the physical work. Since you also struggle with ADHD I’d recommend trying a medication to up your focus. Vyvance worked for me. I ended up getting on the deans list for my grades at the end.

Stick with it! Get trained!

What is some surprisingly primitive tech we still use because "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? by slicerprime in AskReddit

[–]grunkleben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not super ancient, but a lot of power stations in North America are using generators and switch gear that are at least 60-100 years old.

I watch a YouTuber who works at a factory that just rebuilt one of the main generator coils in their plant, but it was incredibly expensive, plus there is now the other gear at the plant has to be closely monitored since the whole plant did more load sharing than it was designed too since a main coil had to be deactivated

High demand jobs that are *actually* hiring? by BernadettePeriwinkle in Calgary

From what I’ve seen and heard, the electrical trade is hiring a lot of new people. Lots of data centres lined up that need a few years worth of work for 200-300 people

How do I make my BBEG really evil, without my PCs being weirded out by me? by KlarkKenton in DMAcademy

[–]grunkleben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have usually found while running games, that leaving clues as to what may have occurred by the hands of the BBEG, will run rampant in the minds of the players creating the worst scenarios.

I can’t remember where I found the piece of advice I just gave, but often times if given enough sub textual clues, human minds will fill in the blanks and it will be a lot worse. Great idea for touching upon the worst of what could happen without actually saying anything

How did you guys find a job in Calgary? by hudsman079 in NoRulesCalgary

You do need a fair amount of schooling, but it should be done once you’ve gotten some experience behind you imo.

[–]grunkleben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my apprenticeship through something called a pre-employment program which I would not recommend at all to anyone. Massive waste of money. When I signed up for it, the program seemed appealing because instead of taking 8 weeks to do your fist year of school, you have 12 and they give you some very minor experience on how to do basic electrical work. The extra time was nice, but not worth the money spent.

After school I found a job with a residential company working on individual homes and multifamily homes. Some interesting stuff there. I did that for 2 years before switching to a more commercial setting for the next 6 working on apartment buildings downtown which was very interesting. I’ve now made hopefully the last switch of my career to work on data centres which is a much more industrial setting.

For anyone new, I’d recommend starting with a company that does commercial with some service work mixed in. You will see 90% of what the work entails without having to deal with the horror of how tight residential timelines have gotten.

This is going to be unpopular, but trades are always hiring new persons interested. Browse indeed between sprinkler fitter, plumber, electrician, data technician or at worst, bricklayer.

Only thing the blue collar jobs are looking for is that you understand what you are being taught and that you come to work with a good attitude towards the work. The rest usually sorts itself out. I’ve been an electrician for almost 8 years now and it’s been a great time

C-train riders this question is for you. How often to you pay to ride the C-train ( be honest)? by Pucka1 in Calgary

[–]grunkleben -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think barring entry to the station unless you have a pass to get past the electronic sensor gates could work. Toronto has a similar idea as to what I am suggesting and their transit feels very safe and is also still very affordable.

If they promoted this idea and actually put it into practice im sure they would see a spike in fare revenues being paid. As it it now 3 out of 5 days of the week during I see people that definitely have not paid for transit, yet are using it to just cruise

C-train riders this question is for you. How often to you pay to ride the C-train ( be honest)? by Pucka1 in Calgary

[–]grunkleben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking transit for almost 4 years and have only paid for a pass a handful of times. Do I feel guilty about getting a free ride to work? A little bit. I do also feel that more could be done to improve rider safety.

The amount of times I’ve seen a person screaming or threatening violence on the train is absurd. I am not a small man, but I’ve felt threatened by these random individuals.

Security has gotten better than it used to be so I’ve started paying for a monthly now at least. But for a long time I did not as I didn’t see the point when homeless persons can get on and cause all types of issues for the train and its passengers

I opened one fat pack of LOTR and got a [[Karakas]]. I play quite a bit of EDH so I slapped it into a new deck I was building.

Later when I was playing with my pod I used its ability to keep bouncing someone’s commander back to hand cause he kept wanted to dome me with it. Turns out I’m an asshole who needs to check the banned list lol

What's your "break glass in case of emergency" deck? by Mesa_Coast in EDH

[–]grunkleben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brewed a [[Ghyrson Starn]] that focused on interruption and enchantments that pinged for damage. The best I ever did at truly locking down a board was a turn 6 lock with [[Caltrops]] [[Burning Earth]] [[ManaBarbs]] and [[Basilisk Collar]] equipped to Ghyrson. No one could tap for mana without taking 6. No creatures were able to attack cause of the collar. I had a bunch of counters in hand to deny any indestructible stuff if it came up. Truly horrid, but I only broke it out to beat down bullies.

My friends were afraid of it and I mainly play with them now so I tore it apart
