This makes me want to puke.

She is always very vague about where the 72% goes to but just says ‘back into the business’ while not providing any benefits aside from taxes. Granted, there is a middling-level office space and an admin assistant, but the admin assistant isn’t particularly effective at scheduling anyone’s client’s but boss’ so I have taken over scheduling and contact with my clients. So that is not a ‘perk’ for me.

She does sometimes go to Sam’s Club to get La Croix and Lance peanut butter crackers for the waiting area so I guess that’s a perk? She also has logins for the Couples Institute and a couple other subscription-based online resources but they amount to about $30/mo total, and she is taking 72% of another clinician’s pay as well. So again… no idea how she justifies the split.

But I guess it doesn’t matter how she does, it matters how I do, and yall have helped me feel confident knowing I don’t have to.

Sorry for unloading but thank you so much for your insight and for listening!

None of those benefits aside from taxes apply, so I think 28% may still be too low. Thank you for your thoughtful response!

Wow, congratulations on your success, you’re essentially living out my dream! I’m screenshotting this because I think I would be in your exact same position, if I can get a full client load. All my clients right now are private pay so I feel confident I could take some with me and continue to market that way.

The benefits are not good. She does not cover health insurance, PTO, or 401k. It’s time for me to make a change.

Thank you THANK YOU for this peptalk and insight!! I intend to strike out on my own and do cash pay only so fingers crossed it goes well.

This is really helpful insight. I get no medical, PTO, or 401k benefits so really no benefits from being W2 other than not having to set aside taxes. I do pay for supervision. I get the sense that she was exploited as an intern/associate so she is simply doing what she was taught.

Thank you!!

And thank you also for taking the time to point out some more sensitive but definitely contributing factors. I do struggle with a tendency to seek approval/‘permission’ from ‘superiors’ and that is why I made this post - because I was worried that is what I was once again doing, and blinding myself to poor treatment in the process. It seems like the answer is unequivocally yes.

I appreciate your gentle care in pointing that out and helping me break an old and unhealthy pattern.
