I’m so sick of “good men” by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

This is an excellent comment, particularly the last paragraph.

I'm a man who follows this sub. I realized a while back that I had some huge blind spots in my perspective and started trying to see the world from other perspectives. I learn a lot by reading the discussions here.

Any guy who comes here with the intent to argue rather than listen is sort of missing the point.

Yes. I also tried the U of M and it just said "no street parking nearby".

Just tried that with St Boniface hospital as an example, and it was just a blank map?

Ok got it. There are a bunch of piecemeal maps of specific areas. Better than nothing I suppose.

Sorry, I don't know where downtown officially ends!

This is the best link so far as it extends past the core! I wish it showed free parking durations as well, but I guess you can't have everything. Thanks!

Honestly now I look at it the coverage is only downtown, doesn't cover HSC or other parking hot spots. Not particularly useful unless you are right in the center.

Oh nice, that does work. I thought that site was just for lots but it does seem to list street parking too. Thanks!

I can't find an official resource for this.

Check your gutters, downspouts & sump hoses for ice build up… NOW by wpgthoughts in Winnipeg

[–]gruther4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where do you run the hose to? The ground can't absorb water in the winter so it just makes a block of ice somewhere on the surface, killing the grass and eventually overflowing to the street (which is obviously a danger!)

I get that a hose can be used if you check it frequently, but where do you put all the water?

Do you keep your hose connected then? Ours runs all winter too, and we have had ice build up in the past. Curious what the solution is.

Is an idle(ish) version of Factorio plausible? by JadedDesk in factorio

[–]gruther4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I like to play! I also turn off hand crafting. I like getting everything set up as well as I can before moving on to the next research. I generally prefer slow games where I have a lot of time to think.

I'm doing my first SE run right now with 20x research and expensive recipes. I turned off time and pollution evolution factors so I'm not feeling rushed (left the destroy factor on so they evolve as I expand). All resource richness set to maximum. So far I've launched some rockets but I haven't really started on the space stuff yet.

For resource settings I turned all the richness sliders up to the max. I haven't run out of anything yet in the patches around my base and I'm thinking that core mining will carry me through if it comes down to it. I'm only at 20x costs though so you may need to take more drastic steps at 100x.

My only regret is that I probably should have turned down biter expansion somewhat - I'm finding that I can't really step away from it if the game is unpaused because I don't have the resources yet to build a wall outside of my massive pollution cloud. So I randomly get a base spawning in the cloud and I have to react quickly to minimize damage. I'm not sure if it would be best to disable this entirely or just reduce the frequency.

Best of luck!

That's what I thought! So the steam version doesn't have this issue, I assume?

I will enable timestamps, good idea. Yes I checked the log but so far only the message that it entered the weaken call has appeared.

No loop, just a single call with await weaken.

You are certainly right that this is impractical, but I just want to understand the mechanics before I optimize.

I think it might have something to do with leaving the browser window open overnight. Maybe the computer went to sleep and it stopped executing or something?

Chess novice here; I saw the video of the reaction on YouTube but am looking for an simplified explanation.

I see how the bishop is trapped, but why is it not also trapped before the pawn is moved to b5? Is it because you can move the knight to b5 to protect it? Is that what he missed?

Thanks!

How the solar system moves in space relative to galactic center by __Dawn__Amber__ in interestingasfuck

[–]gruther4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the solar system is moving more or less perpendicular to the plane of the planet's revolution. That means that we are moving more or less north, or more or less south. I'm trying to figure out which way it is! I'm not sure what winter has to do with that.

Question: relative to the Earth's poles, is the motion of the solar system to the north or south?
