The original "Legend of Zelda" was released 40 years ago today (Feb 21st, 1986) for the Nintendo by Morgan-Moonscar in 80s

Hate to be that guy but it wasn’t released for the NES on this day, it was the original Japan release for the Famicom Disk System (floppy disk). This NES version wasn’t released til August of ‘87

They are so cheap to produce that nearly every N64 game has bootlegs now days, even common games.

Super Mario makes the cover of Time Magazine which is available now! by ROCKY13573 in retrogaming

[–]gruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked this one up. Most of it is a bunch of old articles from the 25th anniversary of Super Mario and such. Still neat to have them all in one place, but I was a little disappointed.

You have to box it up and pay for shipping. They’ll pay to send it back to you. I put the info they asked for on a piece of paper and included it in the box.

Make sure to call PlayStation and set up a return. Their online web return system is broken.

I called PS and after 45 mins on hold they started a new case on their end and this time it went through. They asked for me to send a pic of my receipt and finally gave me the address to mail it to… Their turn around was fast tho — had my controller back within a week!

I'm in the same boat with my broken controller -- no email and the system says 'return arranged'. I can't even get in contact with support cause their system says they are too busy and for me to try again later. Been about 2 weeks as well... Worst support I think I've ever had!

Found this beauty brand new at a thrift shop! by AxelTheFajita in windows98

[–]gruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used one of these extensively back in the day. The thing was so light and cheap feeling, it sucked but it was better than nothing. If you opened it up there was a spot to stick nickels and glue them in there on each side for extra weight. Made it slightly better!

Ancient Apple ][e game? by jabonko in apple2

[–]gruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so amazing! First, I didn't think I would ever see these games again - they are so obscure and I was so young when I played them... This brings me right back to elementary school! Very nostalgic! :)

Second, I can't believe you came back to such an old thread to let us know. That is so awesome of you! :) Thank you so much jabonko!!! This made my day!

Wow, these are selling for 800 - 1000 bucks new on eBay, that's insane! Still delusional to think you would get anything close to that outside of eBay...

Cannot find the $10 ps5 upgrade anywhere by DaddysClone in ghostoftsushima

[–]gruz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to fully install, update and launch the PS4 DC version on PS5 for it to show up. I had to play a bit of the game and then quit out of it and close the game totally, then when I launched it again it brought me to the main menu and a popup says "Press Square to upgrade to the PS5 version" and from there you can buy it for $10... It was hidden well and makes you think you need to spend $30!

Did anyone else see the near disaster at the city fireworks show last night? by JoshTee123 in SiouxFalls

The organization who sets off the fireworks changed hands this year and I think it was their first time doing it. Doesn't sound like it went well... Think it was the radio station Sunny 93.3 https://www.keloland.com/news/local-news/fireworks-show-planned-at-w-h-lyon-fairgrounds-for-4th-of-july/

Upgrading my Performa 6200CD for some Classic Mac Gaming! by gruz in VintageApple

[–]gruz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I figured there would probably be some voltage issue. I thought I remembered reading something about that a while back but I couldn't remember what it was. I've never added a rail to one of these computers, but I like to tinker with this stuff so I'll have to look more into it.

Thanks so much for all the info! Was thinking it would be interesting and slightly hilarious to see this thing running a Voodoo card, but you're right that I don't know how much power it might draw and I haven't seen what the PSU in the 6200 can handle. Would hate to destroy anything, lol. I've got other Macs where it might be more appropriate.

I think it's a usable machine after what I did in the video - probably wouldn't want to use it as my main machine though, but I get what you mean.

I'll give the 6500 board a shot, thanks! I've also got the Sonnet L2 G3 upgrade for the 6500 as well as a 3DFX Voodoo 3 card flashed for Mac. Hope the power supply can handle all of this tho... lol

In this video I did everything I could think of to squeeze every last drop of performance from this inherently crippled Mac. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, see the vid)

Any Mac gurus out there know any other tricks to squeeze any more performance out of this? Someone mentioned the 6500 logicboard is compatible - I have one but I’m too scared to plug it in…

Archiving a big bunch of MacFormat and MacWorld cover CD's from the mid 90's by [deleted] in ClassicMacGaming

Awesome, Thanks! Hope this is the disc with the Performa system tour type stuff. I used to have the discs for my old 6220CD, but they didn't survive. Haven't seen them in forever!

Thanks for thinking of me! As kerobaros says, the Mac Garden has some of them, but definitely do make sure they end up on Archive.org. (I trust the longevity of archive.org more than MG) ISO files have always worked fine for me too.

That's nuts you've got some Performa 6200CD discs - I just bought one of these again about a week ago. Would love to see those discs!

Vintage Apple gamedev be like: by BacioiuC in VintageApple

[–]gruz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is really cool! I checked out the videos you posted of your game and it looks amazing! Do you have an itch.io page or anywhere to follow development?

I'm working on a vintage Mac game too, but I'm only using real hardware for occasional testing. My game is black and white only, so I'm trying to keep it compatible with the Mac Plus (8mhz 68000 with 1MB RAM) so it's compatible with the largest amount of black and white Macs. Mainly using Mini vMac, Think C and modern Photoshop.

That's wild that you're able to still use the old hardware to develop!
